Guest guest
Denita, several other families have been writing me recently. Yes, there are scholarships. The problem is that we structured the program years ago so that only 25% of the funds would go to " returning " families, and 75% to new families. This was done because we knew that families that had been once would know how great it is, and could begin to fundraise to get there again. At this point, I believe we would have to put you (and any other returning families) on the waiting list, but you should still go through the process by contacting Dayna at daycarney@ everestkc.net. Meanwhile, MANY families have raised hundreds of dollars to pay their own way to the convention. We have created beautiful tri-fold pamphlets that describe RSS/SGA, MAGIC and talk about the convention and why it is important for families to get there. On the back is a tear off donation form. There is a spot that says " yes, I want my donation to go to a specific family: " MAGIC will give you hundreds of these pamphlets if you want, you write your name on that line on the donation form, and hand out the pamphlets to everyone you meet. People can then write donations to MAGIC in YOUR NAME but because they are to MAGIC, they are tax deductible to the donor. We track all the donations that come in for your name, and report it back to you. We write tax receipts and thank yous to everyone, and send emails to you with the names, etc. Then we reimburse you for your convention related expenses with these funds. There is a handout called " RSS/SGA Fundraising Guide " that you can get from MAGIC that will explain everything in detail. We've had people put these pamphlets with a flyer describing their own child in video stores in their town; they've contacted their local newspaper, etc. Others are more low-key and just hand them out to family and friends. Some will distribute them at their churches. ANYTHING. I am telling you -- you would be amazed at how fast the $20 adds up. The pamphlet has photos (Liam Gough is on the cover plus a group photo on the inside too). It is very moving. Hope this helps!
