Guest guest
Hi guys Charlie has started having hypo episodes in the last few months and it seems to be getting worse. He is fed through a g tube every 3 hours and on a pump overnight. Last week his pump broke and didn't alarm so I only discovered it about midnight when I happened to check on him. He had not had any food for 4.5 hours and his blood glucose level was 2.2 and he was very symptomatic ie floppy, not foccusing etc we gave him apple juice then fed him formula every hour. In the next 12 hours he had 2 more hypos and we were unable to rouse him after the 3rd one so we took him to our local hospital where he was injected with glucoden. Charlie's paediatrician and endo have suggested that we learn to inject him with glucoden whenever this happens as apple juice did not work - does anyone know of any other option rather than needles? ie any higher sugar fast acting juice etc. I know there is a link between RSS and hypoglycemia - is anyone else having these problems to this extent? Do they grow out of it? He is soon to start growth hormones and his endo said this will help the hypoglycemia as well. Thanks Alison (mum to 3yrs and Charlie 18mths 6.5kgs)
