When ketones are spilling, it is usually described as a " fruity

smell " . I used to think Matt was spilling ketones when he woke up

with really bad breath, but I think it was reflux. The acid

refluxing into this throat and mouth give him horrible breath.

Just a thought.

Well, recently he starting throwing up when he gets upset. Because

it happened twice on Sunday, we thought about calling Dr.H. and

going to see her before April to get things rolling. Well, I took

Jonah for a weight check on Monday and he gained 1lbs and 3 ounces

in a month a half! We were thrilled and decided to hold off calling

her. Luckily he has not thrown up since then. Dr. H. told us to

increase his formula to 24 calories an once and we add heavy cream;

I assume this has helped with the weight gain, but may also be

causing the vomiting. Would you all agree? Jonah eats quite a bit

of protein like meats and fish and hummus, but also likes fruit,

potatoes and pasta. Is so much heavy cream dangerous for his

cholesterol?

like smell on his breath (like when kids are sick) and his

pediatrician said that could be from dehydration or he may be

spilling ketones. Has anyone had any experience with this smell? I

checked his urine today and is did seem to indicate that there were

low to moderate amounts in his urine. We try to feed him pretty

regularly, so what can be causing this?

I KNOW THAT SMELL!!! For us it usually means dehydration and low ketone

spillage. Increasing Alyssa's water intake helps dramatically and

surprising the ketone spillage goes down as well. It would seem that as

well as Jonah is gaining (YEEHAW!) it might be the hydration. I might try

making sure he has something to drink all the time, this worked for us.

Ironically, Alyssa would rather have water than anything else, a clue

maybe?!

We also used heavy cream in Alyssa's bottles back in the day. I added about

a tablespoon to each 6oz bottle. IT did make her less hungry during the

day, so I only did it at night.

We also had the emotional vomiting. Whenever she would get really upset and

cry a lot, she would sometimes vomit. It was also triggered by too much

food or textures she didn't like. She did this from about 12-26 months. It

was the worst at first but didn't stop until after her tube was placed. I

always figured her gag reflex was super sensitive and phlegm or food

triggered it.

CONGRATS again!

Subject: A few concerns

Hi everyone,

I have been reading a lot and following the " diet " discussions, but have not

written lately. I have a few questions if anyone can please help.

As some of you know, Jonah did not do well with weight at our last visit to

Dr. H and she has given us until April for him to gain. Well, recently he

starting throwing up when he gets upset. Because it happened twice on

Sunday, we thought about calling Dr.H. and going to see her before April to

get things rolling. Well, I took Jonah for a weight check on Monday and he

gained 1lbs and 3 ounces in a month a half! We were thrilled and decided to

hold off calling her. Luckily he has not thrown up since then. Dr. H. told

us to increase his formula to 24 calories an once and we add heavy cream; I

assume this has helped with the weight gain, but may also be causing the

vomiting. Would you all agree? Jonah eats quite a bit of protein like

meats and fish and hummus, but also likes fruit, potatoes and pasta. Is so

much heavy cream dangerous for his cholesterol?

I also wanted to ask about KETONES. Sometimes I notice an alcohol like

smell on his breath (like when kids are sick) and his pediatrician said that

could be from dehydration or he may be spilling ketones. Has anyone had any

experience with this smell? I checked his urine today and is did seem to

indicate that there were low to moderate amounts in his urine. We try to

feed him pretty regularly, so what can be causing this?

Sorry this is so long, I just need some expert advice.

Thank,

, Jonah's mom
