Hi Mimi

Congratulations! My Daughter Bobbi was tested and has the UPD7 chromosome

disomy, I was told by the Geneticist that as she has this, it is highly unlikey

if I were to have another child they would have RSS, and as RSS is sporadic and

very rare the odds of you having another RSS child has got to be against. Hope

this helps!

Good News, Questions...CHAT

Hi all

I have taken 2 pregnancy tests and both are positive.I am about 7

weeks along. I go to the OB on the 16th. Since Isaac was a " normal "

pregnancy and they had no clue of his issues until after he was

born..so I am really nervous. He hasn't been tested for UPD7 and I am

wondering if this is necessary? They did a chromosome map when he was

born and all of them matched..would the UPD7 show up there? Also,

are moms of RSS/SGA children considered high risk pregnancies? I am

still in a state of shock and I am afraid I am thinking " too

much " ..we are excited by the unexpected surprise and I am crossing my

fingers for a girl :)

Mimi,

I have to say I shared your fears carrying my second child who is now 3 ½

months. I had a sonogram every 8wks to monitor growth and everything came

back normal. I delivered a healthy 9lb 13oz baby girl vaginally 9 days

after her due date! I guess I had nothing to worry about!!! Congrats and

best of luck. Remember, even if you were part of the VERY low percentage

that does have 2 children with RSS, there is nothing they can do until the

baby is born anyway, and you now know what to do from birth!!

Don’t worry!!

Mimi,

I! Congratulations! That is very exciting...I am also expecting a

surprise baby, #4!, in July! The UPD7 test is a chromosome layout of

the RSS child and each parent and they are compared together to see

if he received 2 copies of the mothers ( I believe), so just his

chromosomes alone wouldn't tell you that. Either way, RSS is a

random occurance and is not very common and it is not likely to

happen again, but if it does, you are probably a pro with what to do

by now. It'll be second nature.

My doc doesn't consider me high risk but I don't know other docs

mottos. My first 2 were 7 1l and 7 14 and my uterus stopped

measuring growth at 32 weeks measuring 32 with Autumn ( 5 6). I gave

birth almost 7 weeks later still measuring 32. I knew something was

up, I was not looking like I was ready to give birth like I had with

the other 2, they looked like they were going to pop out. An

ultrasound was done( i had to fight for it!) but it was an inaccurate

measurement, but they didn't know until after I had her. They said

it can be off 1-2 lbs and they do the best they can, so so much for

that. I don't blame ultrasounds, I blame lazy docs...I am with

someone else now. my concern now is IUGR undetected again and the

dangers of that but I and I am making my docs keep a close eye on

that one, otherwise I'm just mad I have to wait 5 more weeks to find

out if it's a boy or girl!

Good luck to you!

Just wanted to thank you for all of your kind words of

encouragement..they really helped! I didn't even think of the fact

that I will " know what to do " if my next child is RSS..that makes it

seem much less scary!!

Thanks again!
