Guest guest
Hi everyone- Just an update regarding Oliver's progress (or possible lack thereof). He started his DOC band last Thursday. They said he is starting at 19mm asymmetry. The first night, he was up every 10 minutes crying. The next day I noticed a few red spots. One of them being in the right side of his forehead where there is " bossing " . I removed the band briefly and they faded. I also purchased a memory foam topper for his crib. He seemed to sleep better Friday with it. By Friday night, he seemed much more adjusted to the band. My concerns began Saturday morning. When he woke up, I saw the band had shifted to the left (which it had done a couple times but not so severely). It was so left it was really pushing his cheekbone and forehead on the right top and sideburn side and completely covering and pushing in his left ear on the left sideburn side. I adjusted it, but was concerned that the " point " that was supposed to line up with his nose now only lined up when it was shifted. When it is on " correctly " (not pushing or covering his ear), the point is way off to the right. Sunday his red spots were much worse, so I left the band off for a few hours. Especially the one on his forehead. After the redness faded (many hours) the skin on his forehead appears to be wrinkled and sagging. I'm not sure how else to describe it. By Monday afternoon, I couldn't keep the band from shifting. As soon as I'd adjust it, it would shift. And now there was a bruise appearing on his forehead where the pepperoni shaped (and sagging, wrinkled) red spot had been. So I left it off Monday night and all day Tuesday. Of course I noticed yesterday that his onesies barely fit over his head anymore, so there must have been a major growth spurt in the last few days, too. Unfortunately, I can't see any correction yet but that doesn't mean there wasn't any. I know I may have done a major disservice in the treatment department but I couldn't continue the treatment if it was counter-productive and hurting my baby. I live more than 2 hours away from CT, so I can't just go there at the drop of a hat. We go back today for the one week f/u. I will put the band on him before the appt so they can see the pressure points and the shifting and adjust the band appropriately. In any of your experiences, have your children exhibited any skin breakdown or bruising with the bands? Am I just being neurotic? 35 months Oliver 14 weeks (4 days out of 6 in DOC band)
