Guest guest
I agree, Chris. Which surgery is chosen concerns me less than the validity of the information that decision is based on. Unfortunately, there is a lot of bad, yet convincingly written information out there. Some of it outright lying, rumor or opinion presented as fact. Personally, I find the internet a blessing and a curse for research. It's great because anyone can " publish " information and spread it quickly, but then not everyone understands the value of solid medical research, authoritative sources and statistical analysis and it is easy to LOOK authentic. A good illustration of this is the http://www.dhmo.org site (hint: it is a HOAX). Not much can be done about it other than continuing to spread information and hope that people can do a critical analysis of what they find. After that, specifically with regard to WLS, there are other personal, psychological and (of-course) insurance-related issues that may drive a final decision. I can't make decisions for others, especially since I won't let someone else make this decision for me.
