Hi everyone, I just wanted to let you know of an upcoming interactive webinar FJ is presenting next week with Hispanic Communications Network. This is the first of two webinars designed to help organizations utilize their local media more effectively to support their programs. The second media webinar will be broadcast October 14. Spread the word! Thanks, Using Media to Mobilize Latino Communities Join Farmworker Justice for a Webinar on September 29th! Title: Using Media to Mobilize Latino CommunitiesDate:Wednesday, September 29, 2010Time:2:00 PM - 3:00 PM EDT Media can be a very effective way of mobilizing communities around a public health issue and getting the word out about your organization's programs and activities. However, without an advanced media and PR department, how can a small organization utilize the resources they have to ensure quality media coverage?Poder Sano, an initiative of Farmworker Justice, invites you to join a dynamic one-hour "talk show" featuring Alcalzar, the president and CEO of Hispanic Communications Network, as he discusses why the media is an important aspect in any community mobilization project and how an organization can develop a media strategy using resources already available to them. Hispanic Communications Network has been engaging Latinos across the United States with customized, fully-integrated media campaigns that blend dynamic television, radio, print and internet elements. Through collaboration they work with organizations to increase media interest among news editors and reporters, secure airtime on radio and TV, and effectively market human interest stories to the media. In this webinar, we will address the importance of media and how it can used as a tool to mobilize communities and promote HIV prevention. By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to: • state why media is important in reaching rural Latino communities; • discuss how to create a Media and PR department on a tight budget; • list the different types of media platforms and the best ones to use with rural Latinos; and, • explain how to build effective stories for the media. About Hispanic Communications Network (HCN):HCN is a social and health marketing and media organization that reaches and involves US Hispanic communities in health and social justice matters that affect their lives through all-encompassing communications solutions.
