Guest guest
Betty - I think many of us have been on prednisone, with other medications, and by itself. The dose can run from low to quite high levels. Personally, I was initially put on a 60mg/day dose for 5 month. I hated it, but it may be the reason I have been stable for 3 years. It is a hard call. You will probably find every imaginable response here. Some swear by it, others will have nothing to do with it. A very personal thing. There have been some improvements as prednisone helps reduce inflammation. Improvements in the quality of life. It seems to make breathing easier in some. It does not reduce the need for oxygen, rehab or other courses of treatment, simply makes it a bit more tolerable. You will get other responses... this is just mine. Guest guest
Betty, Welcome to the group. In regard to prednisone..it's the best/worst drug around. On the positive side...I'm stable for 4 years because of it, on a silly side.... my arthritis doesn't bother me, my once poker straight hair is now curly and my nails are stronger! On the negative side, I have osteoporosis, GERD, very thin skin, easily bruise, and I have cataracts, the start of glaucoma, mood swings, shaky hands...basically just about all the misery it can bring too. I take more medications to mitigate the side-effects. There is a data base attached to the bottom of this message area...click on database and you'll find many other responses to the prednisone question. It is definitely a personal choice...do your research..talk to the docs and you make the decision. Don't allow doctors to force you into a treatment you don't want..it's your body!
