Guest guest
Does anyone know of a handy chart that gives the optimal timesfor soaking various nuts. Or if no chart - how long do I soak cashews optimally (before bakingthem)?http://www.thenourishinggourmet.com/2008/07/soaking-nuts.html“Some care must be taken in preparing cashews. They will become slimy and develop a disagreeable taste if allowed to soak too long or dry out too slowly, perhaps because they come to us not truly raw but having already undergone two separate heatings. You may dry them in a 200 to 250 degree oven-the enzymes have already been destroyed during processing. Soaking time: 6 hours, no longerDehydrate at 200 degrees F: 12-24 hoursStore in an airtight container" HTH!Peace =)Alyssa 16 yo UC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)Azathioprine 50 mg 1x per dayPrednisone 35 mg 1x per day
Guest guest
Mara,As per the info in Nourishing Traditions:For all other nuts (almonds, walnuts, pecan, macadamia, peanut, pine nut, and hazelnut) you would soak 7 hours to overnight in salt and filtered water (almonds, peanuts, pine nuts, hazelnuts, macadamia need 1 TBSP coarse sea salt for each 4 cups of nuts; pecan, and walnut need only 2 tsp for each 4 cups of nuts) to cover -- by about 2-3 inches is what I usually do. To dry, use oven or dehydrator at a temp under 150F for 12-24 hours -- time depends on temp and how long you soaked.Cashews are different as they are not really a nut. Drain in a colander. Spread on a stainless steel baking pan and place in a warm oven (about 200F) for 12 to 24 hours, turning occasionally, until completely dry and crisp."AmeliaTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Thu, April 8, 2010 11:24:10 PMSubject: nut soaking times Does anyone know of a handy chart that gives the optimal times for soaking various nuts.
