Hi Gang,

I am really confused. I applied to Blue Shield of Ca..HMO for a

distal gastric bypass with a duodenal switch. They denied my appeal.

I was crushed. It appears they want me to stay in network and have

their doctor, who only performs the Roux En Y. I still have had no

consultatin with a surgeon yet. I have one scheduled one Monday with

Dr. Anthone out of USC who does rthe procedure I applied for.

However, we are talking out of pocket money here..he is out of

network. My finances are very limited. I could also arrange a consult

with the in network doctor who does the roux n y...I did switch to

another Dr. " s medical group wstarting on November 1..thinking this

might give me a better chance of getting the distal bypass. Now, I am

really confused..is the roux en y that bad? Should I stick within my

original medical group? Or is the other procedure that much better

that I should switch over to another doctor that I know is an

advocate of it? Any ideas would be appreciated..ewspecially the

advantages or disadvantage sof the one surgery over the other. Please

help..I am 5 " 0 tall and weigh over 400 lbs..I feel like I am losing

my life..quickly.

Thanks,

Cathy
