Guest guest
hey leah!! well we had a situation just like this with christopher about a month ago (the sub. teacher and sub aide (his teacher and aide were both out sick the same day) didnt follow the class routine note and didnt give christopher his 2 snacks. he too was a mess when i went to pick him up, was crying and hystarical!!! i told the head of the child study team (he has an IEP and in it it states he is to get atleast 2 snacks a school period (he goes from 12:30-2:45) and is also to fed on demand any extra snacks. i explained to them how important it is for him to eat, not just for his growth and weight gain but because of low Blood Sugar!! that this effects him dramtically and i dont allow it to happen by making sure he gets his snacks!! it is for his health and well being and could become dangerous!! i made sure that the teacher knew what happen as well!! they made a point to make and highlight on the class routine note that this is what needs to be done!! good luck!! jodie c > > > > I'm having a problem with Olivia's aide. One of her main duties > is to see that Olivia snacks every hour. Well for the last couple > of weeks Olivia's coming home with almost all of her lunch and > snacks still in her bag. > Today for example I sent: > 9 rice crackers > 10 small pretzel sticks > 1 granola bar > (these were in her snack bag) > and > 1 slice of bread PB & J sandwich > 1/2 an apple > 2 cookies > > From this all she ate today was 1/2 of the sandwich and a juice box. > > I always pack way too much just to make sure that there is enough > food but this is getting a little ridiculous! > Being that it's kindergarten they do have 2 snack breaks any way > and then Olivia will sit for her extra snacks. > > Her aide said that Olivia didn't want to eat today and just > accepted a non-eating day. Olivia was very much beside herself when > I picked her up (she goes full days) and couldn't even manage her > coat. She fell asleep the second I put her in the carseat! I > couldn't wake her when we got home and decided (against my better > judgement) to let her nap for a while. When she woke up she was > starving!! > We are very blessed that she truly is an eater. She ate an entire > package of Instant Porridge (oatmeal). Then an hour later ate 5 > asparagus spears, 3 helpings of noodles (total of one large scoop) > and 1/4 of a fillet of salmon. The girl can EAT!! It still amazes > me that she doesn't have any significant weight gain!! > > How do I broach this with the aide properly??? Olivia has to eat, > period, end of story. I'd like some suggestions for a reward system > I can impliment at the school for when Olivia eats a snack... Maybe > that would help?? > I don't want to get on the aids case but Olivia can't be going > hypo-g like that. I should leave some gel at the school also I > guess. > > Anyway thanks for listening, sorry this got so long! > > Leah, mom to , almost 10! and Olivia 5years, 19.5lbs, 34.5 " , > RSS, OI, Lactulose, Omeprazole (prilosec), tums, Pamidronat IV > every 3 months.
