Guest guest
Hello to all. Another 'hoping to have surgery lurker' coming out here. First to applaud all of you for the warmth & candor that you express to each of the list members. I have gained a great deal of information from your willingness to share. Mainly however, I have been inspired to pursue DS surgery. I have done much research and have even questioned some of you in private email. The knowledge and insights that have been shared on this list have guided me to make the decision to have the DS and to select a surgeon. In August, I made an appt. to see 1 surgeon. In October, I made a second appt. to see another surgeon. And in November, I contacted a 3rd surgeon. I will be meeting with the staff of this 3rd MD on 11/14...the Surgical Obesity Center at Staten Island Univ. Hospital run by Dr. Jerzy Macura. As you are all aware, there are many factors to be considered in selecting a surgeon. It is not my intention to light or rekindle any of the flames that have recently ignited here on the list. I am thankful that some of these discussions take place. Sharing differences of opinion in a constructive manner and bringing certain factors out in the open pushes one to go deeper, to re- examine information...and with some luck, to arrive at a decision that brings peace of mind. That is not to say that this peace never gets disturbed, but we need to go deep to find the answers and often times this means that we must listen to it all. I had been feeling badly that I had decided to cancel the appt. with the 1st surgeon because now I would have to w-a-i-t all over again. But I guess my angel was hovering above because as it turned out, 11/14 was the day of that 1st surgeons appt. So I am not behind at all. The staff at Dr. Macura's practice seems to be quite organized. My first contact with them was on 10/31. By 11/2 I had received their surgical questionnaire which I faxed into them on 11/5 and on 11/7 I was called and had an appt. for 11/14. So I felt that I finally have something to share. I congratulate all of you have recently received approval. I pray that all of you who are recently post-op are having a steady improvement, and again to those of you who are 'old' post- ops, thank you from the bottom of my heart for you wisdom, caring, and compassion. I will do my best to share whatever I can as a novice to this all. For right now, I can only promise prayers and the willingness to listen and support. Blessings, Fran
