Guest guest
Today was Ethan's second day with his STARband. We did two hours on and one hour off all day. By the end of the day, I noticed his left eye looked irritated... and that the helmet seemed to be pushing down or putting pressure just above his eye. I took the helmet off at 7:30 tonite and he took a twenty minute nap. When I picked him up from the crib after his nap, he started screaming... almost like the piercing scream from the immunizations. When I touched the spot above his eye, he would scream louder. It took a fifteen minute bath to calm him down. Should I discontinue using the helmet and contact the orthotist in the morning? Or is this just normal? Screaming and tears isn't what we were expecting. I know its late, but if anyone can offer me some advise, I would appreciate it! Guest guest
Hi Karith- I would definitely call the ortho first thing in the morning and see about bringing him in for an adjustment. The eye area should not be irritated or painful. Hopefully it will just take a quick adjustment to solve the problem. Please let us know how it goes. Good luck! Guest guest
Karith,I would not sleep him in it tonight if he's screaming in pain. Only a mom knows her baby's cry, but it seems something isn't fitting properly. Call the ortho first thing tomorrow and if they need to see it on him, just put it on him a couple of hours before you go - I imagine that would suffice. Please keep us posted.Kindly,Sandymom to Lyla (7mo) 6 weeks in Doc Bandand Owen 4 Re: DAY 2 - Terrible...please help! Guest guest
Hi Karith, No it's not normal. Take it off for tonight & go see the ortho first thing tomorrow morning. We went though that after 2 days too (on the front head & around the ears, the skin was scraped/burned). It just needed adjustment & cutting a little bit of the foam. We had to take the helmet 2 days for the skin to ill. Good night. Karine.
Guest guest
Hi Karith, I agree with the other pmoms -- take the helmet off for the rest of the night and call the ortho in the morning. Ava had a tough first week and seemed super uncomfortable with the helmet at the first; but after watching closely for red spots and paying attention to what seemed to be bothering her, the ortho made a few adjustments that first week and she's been fine in it ever since. Hang in there - as other mom's told me, it will get better. e (mom to Ava, 3 weeks in a hanger helmet)
