How long should each stage be followed

When reading BTVC, I didn't even realize that there were set " stages " for

following the diet until I visited www.ccccibs.com. I already went through the

chicken soup intro diet, and now am at stage one of the diet (nothing but

zucchini, spinach, green beans (cooked), apples and pears (cooked) and

chicken/beef/and or fish(?)

But, I'm really confused. How long am I supposed to follow this part/each stage

of the diet. I'm still having symptoms (though my round robin trips to the

bathroom are dissipating -- I still have chronic gas/burping and occasional

upset stomach, albeit less).

Am I supposed to remain on the first stage of the diet until every symptom

passes? If neccessary, I don't mind staying on this first part of the diet for

weeks.

But, I'd like to know. Also why does it take so long for the gas/burping to

dissipate?
