Guest guest
Folks, The plaque, if any, was already there. Reducing serum cholesterol should induce it to slowly dissolve (in chemistry, it's called " Mass Balance " ). Stopping the statin (e.g., Lipitor) should have no effect on that dynamic, as long as serum cholesterol remains low. The statin just interrupts the production of cholesterol in the liver. Statin or not, if it's going to flake off the blood vessels, then it'll flake off. So, forget the " whammo " and enjoy life. BTW, here are my results: July 23rd (having been on Lipitor for over a year, and almost 3 months post-op): Total Cholesterol = 114 HDL = 30 (low) LDL = 58 Triglycerides = 128 Discontinued Lipitor at the end of July; continued to eat lots 'n lots of animal protein. October 15th: Total Cholesterol = 133 HDL = 33 (low) LDL = 81 Triglycerides = 97 Also: PTH = 77 (low; normal range = 12 - 72) Going to have to take more Calcium. Currently taking about 1200 mg/day as citrate. --Steve -- Steve Goldstein, age 61 Lap BPD/DS on May 2, 2001 Dr. Elariny, INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Virginia Starting (05/02/01) BMI = 51 BMI on 10/18 = 40 (-73 lb.) Welker says that normal for the PTH is 10-65 Mine got up to 77 too and in June got back down to 74 and the next one next month should be even lower. Increasing calcium is the trick.....Im now taking 2,000 mg of calcium citrate. Judie
