The recovery time is really dependent on the child and how well

he/she handles it. Plus any complications that may arise, although

I have not really heard of more than one or two. Usually the

surgery is done one day with a stay in PICU for a night or two. Max

did not even make it to the PICU. They put him in a step-down room

instead, but he was older. They get the kids up and moving pretty

quickly, too. It's amazing.

I would plan on at least a week, but it could be more or even less.

Just be prepared for an uncomfortable child and some pretty scary

looking incisions. The first couple of days are long because the

child is medicated and out of it. Then they discourage anything

more than ibuprofen if the child is dealing with the pain. And

after a couple of days, the pain does lessen a great deal.

Believe it or not, however, the scars do heal nicely and over time

will fade and thin out. Would you believe that just a couple of

months ago a surgical thread popped out of Max's incision? There

was just a piece of it appearing in his stomach, so I pulled at it,

thinking it was short. It was really long. I was shocked, but I

understand it is not unusual. Yuck!

Hi ,

When had the triple, he was in the hospital for a total of 12

days, but that includes 2 days for test before the surgery. He had

the surgery in the morning and the next day was walking around

toting an IV pole, it was really amazing. If didn't eat real

food, he would have come home sooner. However, since he ate real

food, he couldn't come home until they got his pump to a certain

level and he was eating.

was 2 years and 4 months when we did his surgery.

He is now turning 5 on 2/4.
