Guest guest
A month ago our son, who is AS, started having excessive belching and gas. Never really had GI problems before. Had been on Creon for a few weeks so I withheld it and saw no change. After 5-7 days of this he had a distended stomach and abdominal discomfort. I should say that he has been GFCF for almost a year and off soy and a whole host of other foods as well for several months. Had a KUB done on 9/25 which showed " significant stool " in the left colon and lots of gas. Took him to pediatrician the next day who said increase fiber, fluids, etc. That night he vomited. It was an isolated event we thought. Stools for the most part have been loose with occassional exceptions since this began, even with enemas (tried a total of 3). Fiber only seemed to contribute to the bloating. Gas, belching, abdominal distention and discomfort continued until this past Sunday when he began vomiting again. Of course there is a " bug " going around so waited it out for a couple of days as he only vomited once on Monday and not at all on Tuesday. He vomited 3 times on Wednesday so called pediatrician who said she had seen kids who had had this " bug " on and off for up to a week. She would not be in her office til Friday so wanted to hold off til then. ($$$$) He did not vomit Thursday or Friday so didn't call her back (I have so little confidence in her anymore anyway, know what I'm saying?) I had wanted another KUB because I feel that his stool has backed up on him and this is causing bloating and vomiting when he eats. Dr. Kartzinel said to do suppositories x 5 days and then we would get another KUB. We did one yesterday with no solid BM-just a medium amount of loose stool. Should I continue this course (I have so much more confidence in Dr. Kartzinel) or start him on Miralax as his pediatrician's associate recommends today? Miralax has not been tested in kids for safety and effectiveness (I found) but she says the suppositories only stimulate the colon to have a BM and he doesn't need this as he's pooping on his own, that he needs a laxative which softens the stool. AAARRRGGGHHHHH! I'm so stressed out I don't know what to do! Dr. Kartzinel is not in his office on weekends but we do have a consultation scheduled for Monday. I'm so tired of seeing my son so sick. please help. Sorry so long. Rosie
