Guest guest
Debbie, We were told to NEVER put ice in the pouch of the formula bag. suffers from severe reflux, and has previously had lots of problems with aspiration. Dr H said that anything cooler than room temp would greatly increase these problems. Guest guest
Hey Debbie!! I'm really sorry if the previous email made you feel bad!! I would never do so intentionally! On a personal note, Dr H is one of the ONLY Drs that I truly trust with . I would follow almost ANY recommendation she gave, because she seems to truly understand our kids. The way she explained it to me was this. Most people (those that consume food by mouth) have their food at least slightly warmed as it sits in the mouth to be chewed, and travels down the esophagus being swallowed. Tube-fed kids don't have that option, because their food goes from the pump directly into the stomach. When cold hits the stomach, it makes the stomach contract. So if you take formula directly from the fridge, OR you use ice to keep it chilled, it's cold when it hits the stomach, and can cause MORE reflux. It made sense to me!! LOL Hope this helps!
