Guest guest
Hi!! We use the 500cc bags, but only filled them with 200cc of formula. does a 31cc/hr rate during the day, so this amount lasts approximately 6 hours. A couple of problems that I see. Dr H was concerned about the amount of formula put into the bag at one time, especially during the summer, because of bacteria growth. She recommended that we use only sterile water to make the formula, and not to overload the bag. she didn't stress that the formula bag had to empty before refilling it, only that it needed to be changed once every 24 hours. I fill B's bag periodically, as needed, during the day, making sure he's covered for any time periods away from home. Then at night, I calculate out what he needs to make to his 8am bag change, and fill the bag accordingly, because it hangs on a hook on the wall, and he's not carrying it around. His night rate is 25cc/hr, so if he's in bed by 10pm, then I only need approximately 250cc to make it through the night. Kim, I only fill the 500cc bag with 200cc of formula. I cap it off, leaving the air in, and then lift the front edge of the cap, only enough to allow the air to escape, while I squeeze gently (unless B is trying to help me out) from the bottom of the bag. This forces the air out the cap. If you have the bags with the teal colored cap, you can see the line of formula as it comes close to the edge of the cap. The most I leak out is a drop or two. And Debbie, because our kids have a tendency towards scoliosis, she recommended no more than 200cc go in the bag at a time, when B's going to be wearing his backpack. She was very concerned about the ratio between B's weight and the weight of the backpack he has to carry. Hope this helps!
