Guest guest
Hi Debbie, " As for options, so far I've gotten the take everything out (because I have crohn's anyway which I didn't like to hear) or burn the lining out. Neither sounded good. Especially if I don't know the cause. " Just wanted to share my experience with an endometrial ablation - which is when the lining of the uterus is burned away with the intent of stopping heavy bleeding - it can also remove smaller fibroids which can cause the heavy, uncontrolled flow. I had this procedure done 8 years ago (due to heavy, ongoing bleeding throughout each month-I knew where every washroom was in my vicinity at all times and it had nothing to do with D and although I was concerned with the " how " it turned out to be a very good decision for me. I was severely anemic at the time as the bleeding had grown increasingly more severe over an 18 month period and I knew that at 42 I did not want to have a hysterectomy. The ablation was done as day surgery with perhaps 2 days of slight abdominal discomfort afterward but nothing I needed pain medication for. Nor have I had any type of menstrual bleeding since. The anemia corrected itself within 4 months after the procedure. Ablation is not the answer for every woman experiencing heavy menstrual flow but it is certainly worth researching further. Your uterus and ovaries remain intact and following the procedure, you do not need weeks to recuperate.
