Guest guest
Bruce was clearer in his reply than I was. IPF is not just simply pulmonary fibrosis of unknown cause. All idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is usual interstitial pneumonitis (UIP) which is defined by a specific appearance of tissue on the lung biopsy. It is idiopathic in the sense that it's cause is unknown. It is possible to have UIP where a cause is known in which case it's not idiopathic. So it's fair to say that all IPF is UIP but not all UIP is IPF (but most probably is). This probably sounds like so much gibberish...it is all very very confusing. Here is a link to a short article on this topic. http://www.haz-map.com/IPF.htm Beth Moderator Fibrotic NSIP 06/06 Dermatomyositis 11/08 To: Breathe-Support Sent: Thu, November 12, 2009 8:05:34 PMSubject: Re: Book DawnPF include all forms of lung diseases with fibrosis or scarring of thelungs. That is over 200 forms. It is also interchangeable with the termILD, Interstitial Lung Diseases. IPF is very specific. It is not PF ofundetermined cause. It is UIP, Usual Interstitial Pneumonitis (aspecific and most common form of PF) of undetermined cause.Pirfenidone is a drug that is not currently approved and wasdisappointing in the clinical trials but is currently applying forapproval.> >>> >>> >>> > > >> >>> >>> >>> > > > Hi, I'm new here and need to hear from others who feel asold as I do.> >>> >>> >>> > > I'm only 43 but my body is about 20 years older.
