Guest guest
Don Yes and yes. Yes, they smell like rotten eggs....you think the pills are bad, you should try the liquid. Coke or juice helps. Yes, you had a VATS. > > > > Hi All, > > Thanks for the answers on the smw. Another question: I bought NAC pills and they smell like rotten eggs! Is this normal? I am afraid to take them until I talk to some of you. Also, is the VATS procedure like what I had? (Three little incisions under my arm where they took lung tissue and a chest tube post-procedure). Thanks again for all the info I'm gleaning from this group. > > Don 71, ipf 08/09, central Illinois >
Guest guest
Bruce, The NAC that we get here is in the form of effevescent tabs., very easy to take, no smell but rather costly Geeta > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > Thanks for the answers on the smw. Another question: I > bought NAC pills and they smell like rotten eggs! Is this > normal? I am afraid to take them until I talk to some of you. Guest guest
Mike, Do you know the NAC has Magnesium Citrate. That is what bothers our system so much. One 600 mg capsule and I am just a mess. But it does help with the mucus. Love & Prayers, Peggy Florida, IPF/UIP 2004"I believe that friends are quiet angels who lift us to our feet, when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly." I use a time release 600 mg NAC tablet. Been told NAC only works for an hour or so whereas the time release NAC tablets last about 3-4 hours. I take it 3 or 4 times daily which mean I have coverage for up to 12-16 hours with the time release relative to the 4-6 hours with regular tablets. Has anyone read anything to the contrary? Guest guest
Peggy, Do you mean magnesium stearate? This is used in the manufacture of lots of pills and capsules to keep the medication from sticking to the manufacturing equipment. It's used in lots of things, including the omeprozole that I take. How odd that you react to that. You are a sensitive flower. LOL Magnesium citrate is a laxative agent and is definitely not in any NAC that I've ever seen. Can you imagine what a mess that would be? Everytime we take NAC we'd poop? UGH!! Guest guest
Because of everyone's comments about NAC, I went searching online & found some 900 mg effervescent wafers that can be dissolved in water, juice or soda. They're wildberry flavored & don't smell or taste bad like some of you said the tablets did. It's called PharmaNAC & sold online by a non-profit buyers club organization that previously sold supplements to anyone. But apparently, vendors are now pressuring them to be a real co-op & demand membership fees, so they've started a sliding scale from $5-$25/yr. (I qualify for $5, so I'm not worried.) I emailed my pulmodoc about using NAC along w/some other questions, but he apparently didn't like some of my questions & refused to answer anything outside of an appt. So heck w/him, I started it on my own. If anyone's interested, the website is www.newyorkbuyersclub.org. Guest guest
Cees Sounds interesting. I think with supplements there is always some reservation in a new supplier since the manufacturing is not FDA regulated, but it becomes a personal decision. Some of the ingredients other than NAC of course are different from the NAC tablets most here have taken, which could be better or worse for different persons. I never found the tablets to have a taste that really would have bothered me in taking them. It's the liquid that is so bad tasting. > > > > > > From: Sher Bauman bofus6@ > > Subject: Re: NAC > > To: Breathe-Support > > Date: Monday, October 19, 2009, 3:10 PM > > > > > > > > > > Bob...good news about the NAC. Guest guest
Kren.... My doctors told me to take NAC 600mg 3x daily along with 600 mg Vitamin C 3x daily. The Vitamin C helps in preventing the NAC from crystalizing in the organs. Check with you doctors first. They seem to help my breathing; coughing and runny nose. Good luck, To: Breathe-Support Sent: Sun, November 15, 2009 6:08:43 PMSubject: NAC I am newly DX with PF heard to take NAC 600 mg do I need to take it 3x a day? So I had to miss out on something that could have been helping me because I am younger ? He said Yes I should go and get some and take 600mg twice a day.
