Guest guest
You can't reduce the extra height in her head. The thing you can do is redirect new growth to a different area (normally to the flat spot). If she has extra height it is usually the back that is flat so they try to round that out. I would ask your hanger ortho exactly what they expect to change with her second band. My daughter had brachy (flat in back) with extra width. In her case the width became less obvious because they directed the growth to the back, and the overall proportion of her head changed. She got a lot more length in back, but almost no change in widths. They should be able to explain what kind of change you can expect to see with a 2nd band. -christine sydney, 3.5 yrs, starband grad > > Hi, > My name is , my baby Faith was born with a prettty bad cone head that never resolved and she was in a CT helmet for 3 months. Her head shaped improved but there's still room for that. I asked for a 2nd band but the orthoist said it's not recommended. She's 7 months old and I insisted on a 2nd band this time with Hangar. Anyone facing a similar situation? I see that her head is still kind of tall and narrow on top I think there's still time to make some changes there. > Please give some advice. > Thank you, > >
Guest guest
I got a 2nd band from CT for the a similar reason. However, my son has both plagio and brachy, and while the 2nd helmet helped the brachy, it did not help with the plagio. We realized this a little after a month of him being in it. So CT is making us a 3rd band for free (NICE!) which will be more like the first band that helped with both. Check out his before and after photos under " Our Plagio Babies O-P. They are the last 3. His name is . Even though he was only in the 2nd helmet for a little over a month, you can see how it helped with his head. AND he started it around the same age as you daughter is now, so I definitely think you should try a 2nd helmet if you think there's still room for improvement. > > Hi, > My name is , my baby Faith was born with a prettty bad cone head that never resolved and she was in a CT helmet for 3 months. Her head shaped improved but there's still room for that. He wor a DOC Band from CT from March - June and there was massive improvement! The only problem is that later at the end of June after he had already graduated his head seemed to be regressing and last night in the bath it looked more oblong than before, but our clinician told us the same thing and he was 10 months at his exit. She was going to do another DSI scan but we had to wait an hour after hours that day due to short staffing just to be seen. Especially since his thick hair covers his head and you can't really tell. She said his head grew 50% and now it would just be cosmetic. I don't agree and think I'm going to ask for another appointment before it's too late since he's already a year old now. The only problem is that I'm not covered there and we had to get a grant to help pay for most of it. I understand your frustration. One of the mommies I know on BabyCenter.com in the plagio group went through the same thing and got a third band for free from CT, needless to say I'm asking her how and will let you know. There are more pictures of him in the Z section under Zayden. Alaina Zayden DOC Band graduate 6/9/09 (still room for improvement)
