Almost 3 months on SCD and my progress has slowed

Morning everyone. I'm fairly new to the list and have meant to say

hi...but I'm a bit on the shy side. Since it seems everyone here is very

helpful, I thought it safe to peek out from underneath my rock, looking

for a little guidance.

After years of pain and suffering, being diagnosed with Celiac (going

gluten free did little to ease all my gut pains and symptoms) and

dealing with a lot of neuropathy damage, among other things, I started

on SCD almost 3 months ago and have been amazed by all the changes.

Physically, emotionally, and mentally I've seen fantastic results, and

in such a short time. I was very malabsorbed, dealing with a ton of

vitamin deficiencies and terribly anemic.

I literally have felt like a new person. In fact, up until 3 weeks ago

it has almost been euphoric how well I've felt. The mental clarity, the

calm mood, no more brain fog and dizziness, and to eat without reacting

and hurting has been empowering.

Three weeks ago I started to feel sick. Somewhat like the flu - only it

didn't progress into the flu - and got a sinus infection that has stuck

with me. In reading the BTVC book I was aware of a possible flare and

wondered if it is supposed to last 3 to 4 weeks, or if I'm dealing with

something else? I feel defeated and beaten down by this sudden

drop...kind of kicked to the curb. Not enough to quit or sabotage my

healing so far...I honestly can't imagine any food that tastes as good

as feeling well and living life again. I'm fully committed to SCD and

have never veered from it. But I was doing so well and really want to

feel well again.

So I guess my question is, how long does a flare generally last? I'm not

able to tolerate many foods - and have tried 1 new food every other

week. I've been able to figure out when something bothers me or not.

Currently I have yogurt made w/ goat's milk, a few eggs, broiled lamb

patties, avocados, tomato juice as soup, white grape juice, peppermint

tea, chicken broth, and occasionally gelatin when I make jello. I can

only handle about 3 supplements a week, otherwise it messes up my day.

I've not had anything I shouldn't and have moved at a slow, steady pace.

If this is a flare, then I realize I'll have to just toughen up and ride

it out, but I didn't think it would last this long.

Hopefully I've made sense. Any advice would be appreciated. I miss

feeling good.

Thanks!

~Ann
