Guest guest
Update on H1N1 Very interesting news: NIH Announces Results of A.R.R.A. Grants As part of the Recovery Act the NIH was able to fund a number of new grants. Fortunately a number of these were for IPF research. The complete listing can be found at: http://projectreporter.nih.gov/reporter.cfm . (At the site check the NIH Recovery Act box and then enter the search term “pulmonary fibrosis.) The largest grant ($5,987,215) went to Drs. Schwartz (National Jewish), Naftali Kaminski (University of Pittsburgh) et. al. to study: Lung Genomics. Both principal investigators are members of our Medical Advisory Board. The next largest award went to ez MD (University of Michigan) et.al. for: CTRIP: Molecular Phenotypes of Rapidly Progressive Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Two other grants of note went to two investigators who have previously received grants from the Foundation which helped provide the groundwork for their NIH grants. Imre Noth MD (University of Chicago) for: Genome Wide Sequencing Study in PF, and Tager MD (Massachusetts General Hospital) for: LPA Pathway in Lung Fibrosis: Novel Mediators and New Therapeutic Targets. Congratulations to these and all the other recipients. Hopefully this will help increase our knowledge of the disease and ultimately lead to successful treatments! Guest guest
Leanne Thanks for the information. That is a huge amount to some very good research facilities. Having no idea what the lung genomics was about I looked the project up and here is some information: " Our aim is create a genetic and molecular treasure trove for the research community to redefine these lung diseases precisely and unequivocally, " said Schwartz, MD, one of the lead researchers on the project and Director of The Center for Genes, Environment and Health at National Jewish Health. " The genetic, epigenetic, transcriptional, and phenotypic data we generate will provide an unprecedented window into the origins, dynamic biological features and unique presentations of these diseases. It will allow researchers to make fundamental discoveries that help identify individuals at risk for these diseases, diagnose them earlier, and develop more effective, personalized treatments.
