Guest guest
Thanks for the response, Eileen. Unfortunately, we don't have any bjs around here in Minnesota. Any other ideas where to buy? Also, how do you know when to start trying the nut butters? My son and I have tried most of Stage 2 foods and are tolerating them OK, except still having some C and D issues. Is it too soon to try? Thanks, > > > > Are there any legal pecan butters available to buy or do I have to make it myself? > > Thanks, > > > > >
Guest guest
i'd be careful though and make sure only raw nuts are processed there that are legal - does sound nice though if so :-) eileen > > >>> > > >>> Are there any legal pecan butters available to buy or do I have to make it myself? > > >>> Thanks, > > >>> > > >>> > > >> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > ------------------------------------ > > > > > >
Guest guest
you must buy them raw -as roasted usually have starch on them - some roast at home for taste but I don't want extra work and like the flavor - so I just throw em in!! eileen > > > > > > You can try the pecan butter at: www.futtersnutbutter.com > > > > > > It's pricey, but anything pecan is. Guest guest
I mentioned that awhile back about one of the Randall's and Whole Foods where you could get your own nuts out of the bin and do a mix of just pecan butter. Someone brought up that we don't know how often these are cleaned or what all they could possibly be mixed with on the blades (cross-contaminants). It could be something illegal--they have all kinds of things in the bins but you'd have to get there very early am or find out when they clean them (if it's a 24 hour store). I picked up a bag of pecan halves at one of the stores recently for 6.99$ which is cheap for here. I found a nut butter at Whole Foods that was pecan/macadamia butter. Sounds great but I wonder if it had something added and why you can't just buy regular pecan butter. I guess using the 'do-it-yourself' mixes at some of the Flagships is up to the individual. Debbie 41 cd houston (I toast and spice mine up first because even adding salt and oil as you make the butter doesn't give much taste. It's really good if you salt, add spices, toast, mix with oil and a little more salt but I just eat it, I don't cook with it anymore). Guest guest
I think it was 16 oz. but I'll have to double check. I froze it. That is extremely cheap for here. Pecans are higher than any other nut for some reason. Most nuts are 9.99$ but pecans are usually a few dollars higher. One reason I don't use nut butters or nuts a whole lot. I did get almond flour with the last big discount at Honeyville. I'm pretty sure it was Krogers but it could have been Safeway (Randall's). I'll look today. Clear plastic bag with a zipper top--I don't recall it had a brand name but it was in the produce department. Debbie 41 cd houston i know you're not in NY but how much did you get for ?6.99 and what store?? that's a good price - I get almost 3 cups of pecan halves for $9.99 at BJ'seileen >> I mentioned that awhile back about one of the Randall's and Whole > Foods where you could get your own nuts out of the bin and do a mix> of just pecan butter.> > Someone brought up that we don't know how often these are cleaned or what> all they could possibly be mixed with on the blades (cross-contaminants). > It could be something illegal--they have all kinds of things in the bins but> you'd have to get there very early am or find out when they clean them (if> it's a 24 hour store).> > I picked up a bag of pecan halves at one of the stores recently for 6.99$ > which is cheap for here. Guest guest
I'm wondering what type of oil people use for homemade pecan butter? I was thinking peanut oil? But wanted to see what other people have used, which turns out the best flavor wise.I don't use any oil, and my pecan butter is always really liquidy and creamy.
