Jodi,

That is wonderful news about the scholarship. Good for you. I understand your

sadness over maybe missing the convention.

Well, I finally have confirmation of my summer plans and they are

bittersweet.

The good news is that I have been awarded a prestigious scholarship

to Fairleigh-Dickinson University to earn a certification in Orton-

Gillingham instruction. It is a grueling two year commitment, but

it will make me the ONLY teacher in the school district with this

distinction and will further advance my career.

The BAD news is that I have training for a few days and it is during

the week of the convention. That means I will not be able to

attend. This is devestating news for many involved. I'm trying to

work it out so that I can fly in on Thursday night and leave on

Sunday, but so far I don't have enough info about the program to

commit to that.

As most of you know, I LOVE working with Dr. H and greeting families

as they go in to see her and then talking to the families as they

leave. It is so rewarding to assure, comfort and advise them. I

have met great people this way. I also enjoy leading discussion

groups and being part of the whole process. I'm going to miss that.

And Max...I love showing him off because he is so much older than

most of the kids there and you all get a glimpse of an older RSS

person who has been on gh since before three and had so many medical

problems. At 5'3 " and about to lose his g-j tube, he is our

miracle " child. " He would be 17 by the time of the convention, so

it's hard to call him a child, you know?

So, don't give up hope about the Zwains. We will try, but it does

not look good. I will keep you posted.

Jodi,

That is incredibly bittersweet.

First, congratulations on the scholarship. That is wonderful news for

you and your family. You should be very proud of yourself!!

As for the convention, if you are unable to attend you will be sorely

missed. As the parent of a teenager, you are a fount of information

for everyone.

I hope it works out for you to do both,

Judith, Steve, (RSS) and (non RSS) 5 year old twins
