Guest guest
Hi , I can't speak for Starband specifically as we are using Hanger, but our son's ears are asymmetrical as well and we were told that the helmet would do nothing to move his ears forward or back, but that would resolve itself over a period of years as his head grows and face goes thru lots of changes during early puberty like 11 or 12. I have heard that from other group members as well so I am surprised your orthotist told you that. Of course, everyone's condition is different so I don't want to say she is wrong, but definitely skeptical and would love to hear more details regarding your orthotists opinion. I personally wouldn't take it off, if it still fits, before everything has filled out. After all, isn't that the whole point in the band? If we all believed it would fill out on it's own like some of the other pediatricians that don't believe in banding, then I don't see a point in using a helmet at all. Again, I don't know the details, but I am skeptical on this one as well. Maybe your orthotist can provide some more details as to why she believes these things. Not sure I can be of much help beyond that. Best of Luck. - > > My son has had his Starband of for almost 13 weeks now. They are very happy with the results, but they said he needs a little fine tuning. My husband is convinced that it has been on incorretly the entire time. It covers one ear and they told us the ear would move backwards in the whole where the ear goes. Well...that hasn't happened and we actually notice that that ear does not stick out as far now! We also noticed that one side of the helmet squishes his cheek in more and his eye looks squished. They told us that his face isn't growing now and it should be fine. Well we also noticed that that side of his face isn't as full as the other one! We are scheduled to get the helmet off on Monday possibly, but my husband made me call to get an appointment on Thursday to get it off. He's over it and thinks it isn't good for our son. I have always heard good things about Star Cranial in Columbia MD and have trusted the Orthotist there. Does this sound like something that is normal? I was also told by the nurse at our doctor that his face will fill out on that side so not to worry. They also want to take it off before he's perfectly symetrical on the flat side and said it would " fill out " . Is this also true? He was at 92% last time we went which was almost 2 weeks ago. I'm so confused and don't know what the right thing to do is. > > > > Sebastian- 7 months old, in Starband 12 weeks 3 days >
