Guest guest
, We've been at the needle and bloodwork thing for 4 years and these little minds are STRONG. We've tried everything in and out of the book. I really wish better times to come for you and Skyler. Guest guest
I was very scared of needles at Skylers age too, though I didn't have any signs or symptoms of jra, until the age of 13 and had to start the routine blood letting. That come from being in the hospital so much between the age of 1 and 3. Rusty
Guest guest
Hi all! I am so happy to have found this website! I have a 7 month old baby boy who had a rough delivery. He was too big for me and had to be pulled out. This resulted in Erb's Palsy which is nerve damage. His left arm was non moble from birth. I have been doing therapy at home every day and he goes to out patient therapy twice a month. We just qualified for AZeip. This is for free in home therapy. But now we are faced with the doc band. Because of the erb's palsy, was refusing to turn to the left. This resulted in the flat head. We went to cranial technologies in Phoenix and did our evaluation. Then comes the time of truth. Insurance. I have the best Cigna heathcare plan that my work offers and it does not cover the doc band. So I am looking at $3,600 out of pocket. I am a single mom trying to make it. I have a ton of support from my family but everyone is in Michigan. Any suggestions? Thank you!
Guest guest
Welcome! There is at least one option I know of where you can apply for a grant... http://www.uhccf.org./ I'm just now remembering that there is another form of grant that is available to the armed forces, but I don't have that link and it sounds like it wouldn't apply to you anyway. Maybe someone else has it or can find it for anyone who would be interested. Also, for those with United Healthcare, apparently this grant is tied in with them. Not sure how it works and if it would help anyone (particularly anyone outside of UHC), but please let us know. I haven't looked at this link in months, so had totally forgotten about it until asked. Good luck with everything! Jake-2.5 (DOCBand Grad 9/08) Jordan-5.5 > > Hi all! I am so happy to have found this website! I have a 7 month old baby boy who had a rough delivery. Guest guest
Hi. We are in Phx too. Our son was stuck at birth and the OB had to yank him out. We didn't realize until we went home on the 3rd day he had a broken collar bone. We did nothing and it healed in 2 months (luckily no nerve damage) then around 3 months that's when we noticed the plagio and realized he favored the side of the broken collar bone. The doctors always say it was positioning in utero but in my gut as a mother, I feel that was not the only reason. I am sorry to hear about the Erb's Palsy. That must be rough for you. It's hard to do PT by yourself all the time so I'm glad you are getting some help at home. I do not see why you would be denied by Cigna. Under the files section there is information about appeals to Cigna. I also found something along my searches about 3 criteria to be banded by Cigna so I know they cover it. Are you working with Pat? She will help you appeal, just be persistent. We did not think we would get more coverage out of our provider because I keep reading that it's harder to win an in-network appeal. You should call Cigna directly and find out if the band meets criteria for the durable medical equipment and see what is covered. There is a chance that maybe you have coverage for Hanger orthotics instead. That is what my insurance was but I pushed for CT to be the one to treat my son and won. We submitted a network benefits review and although I did not need to send a letter, I did. I made it personal and also told them about others that are covered by the band in the Phx area. Good luck. This groups is a great resource. Also, this site has some great sample letters for insurance appeals: http://www.cappskids.org/PlagioInsuranceHelp.htm Lori Aiden (4.5 months in Doc Band 3 days) /PlagioInsuranceHelp.htm > > Hi all! Guest guest
Thank you so much for the info. I am currently working with my employer on appealing this. I was told that it is not a covered benefit. $3,600 is a lot for a single Mom. I am already spening close to $400 a month for insurance. I am sorry about your little guy. Mine also had the x-ray of his collar bone but it wasn't broken. I am bless with my little man. But it can be rough. How long has yours been wearing the band for? Re: My little man Hi. Guest guest
I hope you can get the insurance to cover it. We will submit our forms for reimbursement soon so I hope they give us a nice check back. I've done what I can do so I'll just keep my fingers crossed. My brother's son also had a doc band and they have insurance through Banner Health. It was covered 100% which is rare. I put that in my letter to show them that other insurances were covering it in Phoenix to try and make a case of discrimination. I saw some sample letters from people who sued using lawyers and this was part of their arguments for coverage. Good Luck! We pay a lot in insurance every month too and sometimes I think to myself, they should give us money back every year for only using the doctor once or twice! We have been in the band for 1 week. The first few days went ok, He wasn't in it fully the first couple of days while he adjusted to it and when I decorated it. I thought he was taking to it well but lately he's been getting up every 2 hours at night and won't go back to sleep unless he nurses. Not sure if he's hot, cold (we are under dressing him at night) or just uncomfortable. He also screams a lot more and he's itchy and sweaty in the band so we have him down to his diaper when it's 110 outside and try to limit outings. It's been hard. His head is starting to get flakey but I guess that's normal. I don't know how to get him to sleep better like someone else posted here. It's wearing on me. I started using my maya wrap to try and get him to calm down during the day and this does help (wore it at Target and he didn't fuss once) but it's also exhausting to always wear the baby. > > > > Hi all!
