Actually, I had thought about that and had written that in my

previous post(the one that got lost somewhere in computer land). If I

check the cooler through-not take it as carry-on and have it all

taped up, do you really think they would open it? I thought they only

checked items that were carry ons. Does anyone know? I'm glad you

brought that up, . Oh, we will also be flying from one

international airport to another international airport-both in very,

very large cities-so security would be tighter I would think...

Janelle,

I would not at all risk taking powdered milk and

powdered mixes. They are way too expensive to risk

it. When they made my mom open the rice milk and

drink it, that was even before the anthrax outbreaks.

BTW, they wouldn't have the time, equipment, or money

to test it, so they would have to just throw it away.

Here's what I would do: Take a big box, and mail your

family all of your food. Insure it, then send it with

plenty of time to spare. That way, you won't have to

worry about suspicions at the airport, and heaven

forbid they would lose your baggage. That happened

last month to my father. It would be bad to have to

wait a few days for your food to catch up to you, if

it ever did.

Hi! I'm Cheryl. I have twin 6yo with Asperger's.

I recently flew with my kids to a friend's. I took some snacks in our

carry-on bags but I also mailed a big box of food, soy milk, etc. ahead.

It allowed me to have only carry-on's which REALLY expedited the tight

security at the airport. If you're able to ship food ahead & travel

light, that's what I would recommend.

It worked great! The shipping cost me $19.50 but it was well worth it to

see my box of food at my friend's when I arrived. I sent it through the

regular mail & it was not opened.

Btw, we didn't have any criticisms about our diet. In fact, I had packed

some yummy gfcf brownies and other special treats so the OTHER kids were

saying, " Mom? Could we be on diets too? " :)

Cheryl

I just asked our service technicians who have traveled numerous times

since the WTC disaster. They said everything is checked regardless

if it is carry-on or check-in. They were checked so thoroughly that

they even had to take their shoes off. Since they are repairmen they

have to take tools, motors etc. They had to go through each item and

demonstrate how they worked. I started sending a letter on our

letterhead stating who they are, where they are going and what they

will do there. This has made the airports less suspicious. My

suggestion is to send back-up by mail just in case there is trouble

at the airport. Make sure if at all possible, that the flours are in

their original packaging. Include a copy of the receipt and maybe

other cooking items to confirm the theme. As for what you take on

the plane, take with you copies of receipts for the food items,

copies of the recipes you intend to make out of them, any catalogs

and if possible, a letter from a doctor stating your child is on a

special diet and needs you to take food for him wherever you go. One

plus is that a mother and child will draw much less suspicion than a

single male. My hope and prayer for you is that as you get on the

plane, you are surprised how easy everything went. Good luck!

One more thing about shipping flours. If you take them on the plane,

make sure to take plenty ziplock bags with you. That way if they

want you to open anything up, you have a place to put the opened

package in without everything spilling all over.

Hi Janelle,

I am really behind in my email and have 193 messages left to read

(jumping around in order too), but anyway, want to wish you fun on your

trip. And in answer to some of your questions - don't bring dishes and

worry about GFCF washing them - paper plate and paper cup the adventure.

Someone posted about Miss Robens order being sent to where you're going -

I think thats a great idea. Also disposable aluminum cookware for your

roasting (I know about aluminum cookware but............) I would get

premade sancks from Miss Robens sent so you don't have to bake and maybe

some of those Cool Fruit ice pops she has. I know premade is more

expensive but then family will not think " OH what a bother this diet is "

and you'll have more time to enjoy your visit. Try and make up enough

pasta at one time so that you can use it at one meal as pasta with sauce

and use some of the pasta to make a cold pasta salad with gfcf mayo (add

tuna if you use it or some chicken). Have fun!!!!!!!
