Guest guest
Jane, I would like to make a blanket offer to anyone who feels their opportunity to have children was ruined due to the DS. I have two teenage boys. I am willing to ship, and equip either or both. Now, you will not be able to enjoy their " baby " years, but included with either will be a complete baby photo album, some VCR tapes as wells as recordings of their first words. Laughing...actually, I have not specifically researched post Ds pregnancy because lord forbid, I'm old, I'm fat and have done enough replicating as it is. However, I think that in the research I have done, there is no contraindication to pregancy after the " losing " portion of the surgery is over. I was agast and agog...whatever the hell that means, to see some gals who post surgically had a religious calling to cease with their birth control and if they got pregnant right away...well it must be God's will. This pissed me off so completely as the most irresponsible hogwash I have ever heard. Just like any other medical treatment, there are and there are not appropriate times in ones life to procreate. The first 12-18 months post surgically are within this window. After that, as long as someone is compliant and has leveled out their weight loss and their supplementation, there is no medical evidence that this procedure will in any way cause the child or mother problems. (The dads might have a hard time of it, but hell, it's the least they can do!) Hugs, Theresa P.S. Hope you understand that I am not trying in any way shape or form to convince you, but for those who utilize these boards as a part of their decision making process, especially younger women, they do need to know that the DS does not put their dreams at any risk any more than any other average life occurance! > > > Dear Nick, > > > > > > I was very well researched before I had my Lap BPD/DS. Guest guest
Hello All, I am one of those women who chose the DS in particular, because I want to have children. I am 40 years old, have never had children and part of my decision was based on the controllability of a woman's health during pregnancy with the DS. As with any pregnancy, it is the mother's responsibility to make sure she is getting enough nutrition to make sure the child has the best chance at a healthy start to life. One of the components of that responsibility is to make sure the mother is in the best health possible prior to becoming pregnant. These are facts that are no different whether you are 20, never had WLS or 50, and have had WLS. Proper medical care in preparation for becoming pregnant is one of the best things you can do for your child. Jane, Can I get one of those boys in about 2 years, I will probably be looking for a good helper (read " babysitter " ) by then. Guest guest
Kathleen, Both of my boys are great with kids and I am volunteering em now for babysitting duties...(anything to get em out of the house...grins)! You need to go buy my favourite Dr. Suess book, Horton hears a who...and make sure you read that one to your little one. Best of luck to you on the baby race...and I agree with you wholeheartedly!
