Guest guest
, I use s. Boulardii and because it is non-colonizing it tends to not overgrow nor implant itself. I have found it helpful in my battle with UC. charlene UC 8 years SCD almost 6 years My DAN! suggested S. Boulardii to help combat my son's yeast and bacteria problem. The science behind it seems good, but I read somewhere that they are unsure of the side affects of immuno compromised individuals, and people with gut permiability, since it is a fungus. this freaked me out and I stopped the trial, (which did seem to cause a die off). My son is ASD 22 mos, SCD day 3, any xperience with S. Boulardii??? -sararh ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ No virus found in this incoming message. It helped minimize the die off symtoms. I have had very good results, so far. Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 22yrs mom of and
Guest guest
I've suffered with C my whole life. Last Nov I had bad C (no pain). Started passing some mucus and had 1 instance of blood. I was loosing insurance so asked my doc for a colonoscopy. My dad has crohns. They found a couple ulcers. I've been on scd since mid Jan. Very strick. I started on asacol after my cousin (who is a nurse) scared me into it (mid Jan?). I was on for maybe 6 or so weeks and then forgot to take it for a couple days (life got busy). For a week and a half my BMs were great. Then I figured that I was already off the asacol and that maybe I really didn't need it and I can do this by nutrition. At that same time I started eating maybe too much nut bread. Then my system stopped. No pain but no BMs either. This past Sat I had to take milk of mag. Not becuase I felt bad but because I hadn't really been going. It worked but now I haven't for the past 2 days. I haven't been keeping a journal. I just created one. My diet consists of: eggs, chicken, carrots, squash, honey, almond nut flour, beef, lemon (juice in morning with warm water), cod liver oil, blueberries, yogurt every couple days or when I can make it. I'm thinking that maybe I should go on the intro for a couple days and then add things back in. What's so hard with C is that I can't tell if something is ok or not.About a month ago I had a bad rash on my inner thighs but that went away. I didn't realize that was a UC thing. I don't even know what that means. Is that good because I was doing something right or bad because something was going awry?I really don't know what to do or what to take. I have pureed most of my foods. It's just easier. Any advice because I'm willing to do whatever. But I don't know where to go from here. Thanks for anything you can tell me.To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Tue, April 6, 2010 9:56:58 PMSubject: Re: S. Boulardii Hi , Sorry, I am not updated about all the new folks on the list. What are your complaints and your diagnosis? S Boulardii is a "good yeast" IMO it should be taken on and off and on off again for some of us. Do you suffer from yeast issues or antibiotic damage in any way? Do you feel you need more of a probiotic effect in your system? Please provide me with some info so I can better understand your needs. Guest guest
I forgot to answer a couple of your questions. I don't think I suffer from yeast (don't know what the sypmtoms are) and I haven't had antibiotics for many years. michelleTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Tue, April 6, 2010 9:56:58 PMSubject: Re: S. Guest guest
Heya , I think you need to do the intro for a couple of days and then gradually add foods in one by one. All cooked, peeled and deseeded. Also, have you tried the constipation protocol? http://pecanbread.com/p/how/coprotocol.htm Hold off on all nuts (seems to aggravate some of us in the begining) and just proceed slowly. I would also hold off on all supplements until you are a bit stable or really as long as possible. It is safe to say that many of us getting here suffer from bad gut ecology. I am unsure if this means yeast specifically for everyone but it is safe to say that if you have bad belly issues than you have bad gut bugs. Keep that honey to a minimum and don't let it be a crutch. I nixed it myself. What about juice? Are you diluting your juice by 1 part juice 3-4 parts water? Elaine said D and C are the same things just opposite sides of the spectrum. Just hang in there and go slow (I know! easier said than done!) Guest guest
, That almondie butter is good stuff (and expensive!) I would say that whether it's OK for you, where regular almond butter is not right now, depends on whether the almond skins were causing you the trouble or the almonds themselves. Give the almondie a try, and if it's not quite right, try again after awhile. What about blanched almond flower? Is it OK somewhat early on? I have been improving tremendously the past week from spotting a slight candida overgrowth and watching foods closely, but I would like to add a few more carbs and fats. I couldn't handle organic almond butter so I ordered almondie butter from digestive wellness since it is blanched. But will a bit of blanched almond butter hurt? I'm going through a rough patch, with now even new symptoms, stomach pains and cramps the past 3 days...well I think it may be a die-off thing from eating too much coconut oil, since other die off symptoms are intense. Anyways, I wanted to try a new probiotic since I had been doing the SCDophilus for 3 months. Want to do coconut milk yogurt as well, but wondering if the s. boulardii is worth a try....i have minor reactions to high sugar foods from time to time, so I think there is some kind of yeast thing going on. But I know its mainly for diarrhea...I only have constipation to go along with the gas and bloating. Ellen, S. boulardii pretty well eats candida, and, so far as I've read, some of the other yeasts for lunch. Being a friendly yeast, it doesn't over grow, but it does chase the ones who do out of there. What you're aiming to do is NORMALIZE your gut, since if your normalize the gut, both constipation and diarrhea will clear up. They're opposite ends of the same spectrum. Guest guest
I started taking this about two weeks ago after much hesitation. I have only seen good things. Less bloating and 'rumbliness.' I just feel much better overall. Had die-off for two days. Nothing horrible. Give it a try. - celiac, parasites, colitis SCD since Dec. 2008 > > Hi, > > Is S. boulardii something I should be taking? Guest guest
Mara, There are no set protocols for this kind of stuff.. Especially probiotics in general. I wish more adequate research was done and not from food companies (blech!) I personally think probiotics long term is the way to go but you need to take breaks in general kind of like how Dom suggests (including the ferments that have the yeasts in it like Kefir or Kombucha etc). The idea is to " pulse " .. Thing is with S Boulardii in general it can cause other yeasts to overgrow so the idea behind it would be take it.. stop for a bit and resume and so on. That specific schedule is what you have to learn for your individual body. If you have a tendency to overgrow certain pathogens in general you may want to be more mindful to " pulse " .. As always, I think it is important every now and again to stop and look at the regiment we are doing and be mindful about it.
