Hi ,

Since MSG and aspartame send my son right into orbit I found a list of

'umbrella' terms that food manufactureres are allowed to use that have msg

and other things in them. If the label lists one of the terms I don't

bother purchasing the product or checking. If it is something that

specifically is hard to replace you can check by calling and just keep

asking people if this is information that they would be able to give you,

asking for their names helps too, it makes them feel more personally

responsible for their reply, particularly if you explain that your child has

an allergy. We have a list of maybe 20 basic items we can purchase at

different grocery stores, then we buy the rest at natural and organic food

places where it says right on the label MSG, Gluten, etc. free.

Particularly at health food grocers they are more than happy to do the

calling for you while you are at the store, in the event that they don't

actually have the documentation there regarding the foods. I also look for

the " Certified Organically grown and processed in accordance with the

California Organic Foods Act of 1990 " label. They tend to get very specific

with these labels listing exactly what is in the product.

We don't trust any fast foods. Particularly after reading about that nasty

coating Mc's puts on the fries before it ever gets to the Mcs

restaraunt, we make our own fast food. It is unbelievable to me the

quantities of additives (everything from flour, to MSG, to carsinogenic

preservatives) that are added to literally everything. You know something

funny? One of the authors of a book I read was making a joke about people

spending thousands of dollars to get face lifts, etc. to try and look

younger, more attractive, when all they have to do to remove 10 years from

their face and body is eliminate the additives for 10 weeks. What's worse

is he was right!
