I know I can't say this the way he did, but it made sense. In other words, they could make the stomach smaller (like the pouch) but they don't or they could do something more drastic with the DS portion, but they don't and its the 2 together that result in weight loss. Also - he explained pretty fully to me what the RNY was - I guess because he thought I might not know and he wanted me to be sure I understood that surgery, too. (He didn't know if I might be considering that in my quest - but I am not!) He said the small opening (stomah) in the RNY had to be " exact " in measurement for it to work, and since nothing remains exact, it could either get bigger (which cut down on weight loss) or smaller (which required having it re-opened) unless a round device was used to keep it the same size (and he said it had to be really really really small to work) but then you have to worry about that device breaking down in the system and problems with that, possibly back into surgery.
