I've checked out Lucy's site but it doesn't make sense. I'm hoping to get to the point where my little yogurt maker just isn't enough. You remove the trays from the Excalibur. Set the temperature between 100-110 (I usually set it at around 105-107). Prepare your yogurt mix. Place it, covered, in the Excalibur. Close the door. Turn the Excalibur on. COme back in 24-30 hours. Remove the containers and put them in the refrigerator. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
Guest guest
You take the trays out (it's a box with removeable trays and add your yogurt container in there. When I start making more for cooking and stuff I'll use 2 quart mason jars. I think I could probably fit about 6 in there. Right now I'm using a one liter glass measuring cup that's marketed as a " batter bowl " . Anyway, heat your milk, cool it down, add your starter, I put my thermometer in there and cover it in plastic wrap. I have my dehydrator on 105 and that's exactly where it keeps it. Our temps have been in the 80s this week and I only have my windows open (refuse to turn on the A/C) and it has kept my yogurt at a beautiful constant temp every time I check it.j Like my newest toy, the iPhone, I don't know how I went so long without this thing. Maybe that's why I never made much yogurt and stopped making it about a year ago. Misty Kimble CD - no meds SCD - 2 years > > > > I finally got an Excalibur from Lucy's kitchen. I just made my first batch of yogurt. It stayed at a perfect 102 even all day yesterday when it was 80 outside and I had the house open and no A/C on. I love it. > > > > So that leaves me with a Eurocuisine yogurt maker (makes 7, 7oz jars at a time) with a dimmer switch and some extra jars that I no longer need(though I lost 7 of the tops by overboiling them just to find out I didn't need to boil them because I could ferment the yogurt with the lids off. GRRRR). (When I make 2 batches back to back, I would put plastic wrap over the jars when I put them in the fridge and would recycle the tops to bring the yogurt out of the house.) > > > > It's a great starter yogurt maker, but kind of a pain because you have to make yogurt every 2 days in it and it's difficult to drip because you have to empty the jars into something else. Someone on the list had purchased a 2 quart container that fit in their's but I haven't been able to find one. Albeit, I didn't look very hard (just at Wal Mart/Dollar store). So if you could find a container that would fit, the yogurt making would be so much easier. > > > > I will give it away with all the jars if you'll pay COD... just let me know if you're interested. > > > > I live right outside of Baton Rouge, LA if you want to meet somewhere. > > > > Misty Kimble > > CD - no meds > > SCD - 2 years > > >
Guest guest
Misty, Over-cautious is all good (I don't think you are.. I think what you're doing makes total sense!) Thanks for explaining it to me!
