Guest guest
Kat Being on an immune-suppressant like Prednisone means that yeast will get out of hand, so you have to deal with them along with everything else. However you also want to get your UC under control, which means taking a med. like Prednisone. It is tricky. I wouldn’t take another antifungal for a while, not even a natural one like garlic or lemon juice. I would just focus on finding foods that are easy-to-digest but also are lower in carbs and sugars. Or don’t have a high-carb food more than every other day or every two days. I know it’s tough, but eventually your body can heal enough that it will tolerate an antifungal – or not. I can’t take antifungals (allergic response and mess up my digestion), and with time I got my candida overgrowth under control just be limiting or avoiding the yeast trigger foods. It took longer, but had the big advantage of being a lot less stressful on my body. I haven’t had to make the decision whether to take prednisone or not, since my digestive disorders are functional and not IBD. But perhaps you have other options to prednisone? Unfortunately I would think that most meds. for UC will be immune-suppressant, which means candida will be an issue for a while. However if you can get the bleeding stopped, your digestion will improve enough that eventually the candida levels will come down as your gut ecology and immune system stabilize. It is terrific that you can still handle a probiotic supplement. That will help considerably. You haven’t been on SCD a very long time, so I’d say you are probably improving a bit even if you can’t tell yet. You are just getting through the worst of the detoxing phase, now should come the early healing stages. Things should get better over the months. Kim M. Lemon juice seems to be the same. I was on clotrimazole for thrush, but I read that taking anti-yeast meds can be very harsh, and I want to heal up more before bringing in the big guns. Not sure if this is counterproductive since yeasts could be causing the issues that I am waiting to heal from. People have suggested nystatin too, but I may have had a reaction to that in the past. My concern is that the yeasts are contributing to the UC. If they are, it seems counterproductive to stay on the prednisone, but I don't want to go further into flare
Guest guest
I have a question on sugars since we use honey and fruit. My old doctor used to give the recommended amount of sugar for prednisone then knock those numbers down again. So even less than the recommended amount. How do you take that and apply it to the amount of honey/fruit/juice? Maybe that would make it easier to watch the amounts. thanks, debbie 40 cd Kat Being on an immune-suppressant like Prednisone means that yeast will get out of hand, so you have to deal with them along with everything else. Guest guest
I just ordered the DVD -- I've been getting into meditation for stress relief. __________________________________________________________________ CD SCD 6 months Lialda, Purinethol Freeda Vitamins, L. I'll look more into it when I have a minute today. It reminds me that I found some good ones on youtube over the summer too. I just "shut off" from all that when the schizophrenia- type symptoms got their worst and I had to forget I was a spirit and pretend to just be a body for while in order to ground out I guess. Thanks for the reminder! Guest guest
Emad, I just take my illegal meds, and try not to worry about it. It's a rather minuscule amount, not like eating a piece of bread or something. You'll still heal :-) Holly Crohn's SCD 12/01/08 > > > > > > Hi all I'm really hoping someone could answer my question here. I've been doing the SCD diet seriously for about 4 months. I've been a lot better.BUT I recently noticed that the maintenance meds that I take (mesalamine pills- Claversal) has certain binders that contain potato starch, which can only imagine is illegal. Also, its been recommended that I take pentasa enemas, because I'm currently taking entrecord enemas (which don't, I believe, have any illegals). The pentasa enemas actually have sugar- if I understand correctly! These common meds are used to keep the disease under control, if I stop taking them I could flare out of control, and yet they go contrary to the disease. I'm trying to taper my Claversal dosage, but as for finding a replacement for the entrecort enemas, that is " legal " this is definately a problem. It seems our maintenance meds are completely inundated with illegals!!!Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks Emad >

Emad, Most medications are, and it can get very expensive to have them compounded without illegals. Elaine has stated that if you need a medication, to go ahead and take it, even if it contains illegals. What she told me about a supplement which I need (for muscle spasm in my back) was that yes, it would be better if I could do without it, but since I couldn't, to use it. She said that it would probably take longer for me to heal because I am continuing to feed the bad bacteria, and she was right. But I don't have an option. There IS no legal substitute for the supplement, and my prescribed alternative is CODEINE. With an up and down and up and down of needing it, and a perpetual risk that something will set my back off, and there I'll be, throwing up from the pain. So, if you need your prescribed meds, use them -- but you'll need to be extra strict on the diet. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
