Guest guest
Will I just make the regular recipe and throw it in the dehydrator in a ??glass bowl?? Yes, you make it exactly the same way and put it in the dehydrator, set the temp and go back in 24 hours. I use glass jars or bowls when my jars still have yogurt in them. I do tape a piece of waxed paper over the bowl so the blowing air doesn't get anything into the yogurt. Well, it's certainly tempting, if you yearn for a pro-quality kitchen! Guest guest
Marilyn,You and me both! I can barely keep up with the boys. I know this sounds terrible, but I am looking forward to moving to India for the sunshine and the house help! Now all I have to worry about is if I have the help and the food is made and is in the fridge/freezer that the rolling power outages don't spoil my food! Everyday they come home screaming that they are 'STAAARRRVVING!' It is because my husband doesn't want them to feel 'deprived' and so they eat the lunch at school. Now, the food at school is good because it is a very small school (only about 400 kids K through 12) and the chef does just about everything from scratch, but they do have the opportunity to eat too many starches which of course fills them up but doesn't do them much good! ; ) AmeliaTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Tue, April 13, 2010 10:50:35 PMSubject: Re: Re: yogurt in excaliber At 04:07 PM 4/13/2010, you wrote: I don't know, looks a little small to me..... HA! Oh, well, they have different sizes, I'm sure. <g> I could probably use a fridge the size of a single car garage, and a freezer, ditto. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
Guest guest
Eileen,I would think that at the temperature the yogurt is made and the fact that it shouldn't be so full as to actually touch the lid, it would be just fine to both ferment and store. If it really concerns people, they can always buy the old fashioned (coming back into style now) swing top glass storage containers.AmeliaTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Wed, April 14, 2010 12:46:45 AMSubject: Re: yogurt in excaliber the lids are ok if not heating right? Guest guest
Because I'm weird like that. The ONLY reason I use plastic wrap is because it only gets to 105 degrees in the dehydrator. I won't use plastic in the microwave at all. When I start using mason jars, I'll probably use cotton cloths and secure them with rubber bands. I don't think there's anything actually wrong with using the lids. Misty > > Misty, > > " I wouldn't. Guest guest
I put the lids on after too. There's just something about aluminum that grates on me. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with using them. I just don't want to leech any of that toxic metal into my yogurt. I have no idea if that actually happens though so please don't take that as I've researched it or anything. It's just IMO... Misty > > the lids are ok if not heating right?
