Guest guest
I just had to tell you a story. Some friends of ours have a middle son who has always been too tiny. When I met them he was 4 yrs old and I truly thought he was 18 months old (but he was riding a TWO- wheeler, so I wondered what was up). No RSS. Borderline SGA. But just not catching up. Begged parents to go see Geffner for 2 years. Finally..... and he was approved for GH. He is now 6 years old in kindergarten and his 2 year old sister is as big as he is.... Long story short. He gets approved for GH 2nd week of Dec. Dad finds out that his company is switching insurance plans Jan 1st. They rush to get the GH prescription filled, and get their first month of meds. Now what do they do? New plan says NO WAY to growth hormone. Cobra? Would cost about $1,000 a month, but still cheaper than the GH. But would only carry them 18 months. So we're making calls here and there. And the phone rings in my house. A woman says that a friend gave her my number, explaining that I work with families of kids with growth disorders. Turns our her 16 year old son is GH deficient, and basically began skipping shots about a year or so ago, and their insurance plan still kept shipping. He just decided to quit the injections (he is 5'8 " ) and they had 35 BOXES of Nutropen pen vials (which was about 3 months supply for him). Did I know a local family who might want the meds, but they had to accept it anonymously (boy has not told anyone he takes shots). I called my friend. Guess what GH her son is on? Yep, the Nutropin pen. Same brand, same pen, everything. 35 boxes to the 6-year-old is a YEAR's worth of GH. According to MAGIC, long enough to see some growth results and then go back and appeal to the new insurance plan a year from now. So this woman brings by two garbage bags packed with boxes of GH and bags of ice to my front door.... Isn't that an incredible story? If I hadn't done all my MAGIC fundraisers, this other woman wouldn't have known what I do, and wouldn't have known to connect me to this mom. Anyway, this was a very long winded way of saying " what comes around goes around. " Love,
