Guest guest
, Go the web site and click on contact patients, and address your questions to 10 people of your choice. Because you are the one with the questions and the one who will benefit from the answers, you need to reach out to them and ask your questions. That's one way, there are other ways of connecting with post-ops at the site, some listed my month, depends on what you want. Take a few minutes to look over what the MGB home page can connect you to. You really have all the answers right there - well, almost all! Guest guest
Pam, I certainly can relate. I too was an emotional eater prior to surgery and sometimes still practice the old behaviour. I also tend to eat when I am bored. I am discovering that the emotional eating sometimes is pretty normal as long as I am aware of what I am doing. I generally try to make better choices which generally means not having binge foods in the house. I have stopped buying sugar and mashed potatoes (my most favorite binge foods.) Chips are usually out of the question as well. I still have a weakness for crackers but will buy some each month. If I realize I am overeating because I am stressed, I try to talk about it with someone. Just remember that you have made great progress. Guest guest
Hi Dixie, Congrats on getting to a size 10-you've done great. Your also smart to try to nip this 5 pound gain before it turns into 10 or more. Thats my plan too. At 18 mo post-op, I nip it when its a 2 or 3 pound gain by cutting back on the snacking. Emotional eating is tough and all too easy to do. You know, if you were able to control it before, you can do it again. Why not? Just say to yourself that you have worked way to hard for every one of those pounds and they are not coming back...borrow Nike's slogan..JUST DO IT. Besides keeping the stuff out of the house (obvious solution), can you allow yourself a little bit of the bad stuff, kind of a controlled amount? Some can do that and others can't. I prefer that option! Someone else told me to try drinking an 8 oz glass of water very fast instead of reaching for that brownie. Then if you still want the brownie, drink another glass very fast, and then if you still want it, have it. Chances are by then you don't want it anymore! How does exercise work for you? I have found it to be a great stress reducer. When feeling the stress, hop on a treadmill or head for the gym or walk fast around the block. It can work out some of that stressful energy. Good luck, Cindy lap RNY 2/8/02 249/148/145 > I had my surgery in Nov 2001, and have been doing wonderful. I've > lost 150 lbs and went from a size 26/28 to a 10/12. Guest guest
Marie, You have the answer right in front of you. Stop snacking! Go back to basics-protein first, then veggie, lower the carbs especially the white carbs, cut out or lower the sugar, up the water intake, no drinking during or right after meals, eat frequently (5 or 6 small meals) and regular exercise (heart pumping cardio). Its a calories game and it sounds like you are taking in more calories than you are burning. Try tracking your calories for a week, then lower them by several hundred a day, up the exercise, make better food choices and see if that works. If you are doing all the above, and still cannot lose weight, then see your surgeon to check to see if there is a mechanical problem. Only then should you consider a revision. Good luck. I know its not easy. Cindy in Va lap RNY 2/8/02 > I had a RNY in February 2001. I weighed 350 pounds at that time. I > got down to 204 and then began gaining weight again. I now weigh 270 > lbs. Guest guest
Hi Marie, Definitely stop snacking. I really encourage you to work on getting your protein and water in and fill up with veggies then maybe a piece of fruit to round it out. And your vitamins! Don't forget those. If you are having a problem breaking the snacking, it may help to up your protein shakes. That sorta helps me. The other thing that helps me is that I make some celery and carrots and have them handy cut up in the fridge. I'm suprised how often I turn around and am not really all that in the mood to snack. Then, if I do end up snacking, atleast it's a piece of celery and not something bad. I also have sunflower seeds around. I'd up the protein shakes first and see what that does. I do not buy junk like chips and stuff and that helps tremendously. Sherra Re: I need help > Marie, > > You have the answer right in front of you. Stop snacking! Guest guest
Marie, Get out of the house! Don't stop at any fast food places. Go to the store after you've eaten with a list in hand and do not buy anything that isn't on the list. Read this board everyday to stay in the loop and try to post everyday with your successes and failures to give yourself a sense of connection and a measure of accounability. That's a start. You can do it. You just need a tune-up. Vicki A. - In Graduate-OSSG , " cindyjrubin " <cindyjrubin@y...> wrote: > Marie, > > You have the answer right in front of you. Stop snacking! Guest guest
You can do this Marie. You just need some encouragement and keep reading these lists....if you have good habits reinforced it helps. Sherra Re: I need help > Marie, > > Get out of the house! Guest guest
Marie, you sound so depressed. Staying in the house is a major sign of depression. You cannot stop snacking when you are housebound. Please talk to your doc about this, many of us cannot do it alone and need professional guidance. Guest guest
As long as Jonah is able to take in CARBOHYDRATES, even tiny bits, every 2 hours or so -- (as well as stay hydrated), that is the most important part, for he is so underweight. Don't let the doctors tell you that " staying hydrated " is all that matters. That doesn't work for underweight children whose head is normal sized. If you are confident that Jonah can keep down some carbos (even if it is just Saltine cracker after Saltine cracker), keep him at home. But monitor his ketone levels with Ketostix. If he shows moderate traces at all, I would ask your physician about readmitting him until he can eat enough to get rid of the ketone spilling. Please keep us posted. > Hi everyone, > I need some help. Jonah got sick in the middle of the night on Sunday and around 3:00AM we took him to the hospital. He started throwing up and was admitted to the hospital and put on D10 IV. Anyway, he was released yesterday because he had stopped throwing up and kept liquids and some food down. Now he is home and today he is eating very very very little and we are giving him Gatorade every minute or so when he is willing. His pediatrician says to keep giving him the Gatorade and is trying to avoid sending him back to the hospital. My fear is the night time when we can't give him the Gatorade. Should he be back in the hospital and on an IV overnight? He just ate a bowl of cereal.... > > He just gained that pound and now this... I am stressed... > Thanks for your help. By the way, I read the Miramax posts and I just wanted to say that Jonah takes it with milk. did you say that is not good? I am glad you are doing better.
