Guest guest
Hi Mimi, I am not sure how old Isaac is, o you might want to make sure you get the liquid form of Periactin. If I remember right, quite a few do not have success with this medication as an appetite stimulant. Keep in mind, if it does work, you may see a big jump in appetite and then it seems to stop working. It hasn't stopped working, it was work by raising Isaac's " average " appetite. So its long term affect is subtle and not obvious. Some people have success by taking a drug holiday. Note this is not a big party in some third world country but rather a brief cessation in using this medication. A week or 2 should be sufficient but ome go longer. Last, as Pat mentioned, you will probably want to ramp up to the full dosage. This is where using the liquid is more convient. When we started our son on this, the doctor recommeded the following ramp up schedule to minimize the drowsiness and crankiness that sometimes comes with taking an antihistamine. week 1. 1/4 dose divided between 3 meals week 2. 1/2 dose divided between 3 meals week 3. 3/4 dose divided between 3 meals. week 4 full dose. We started our son when he was barley 2 so this is a very gradule way to start. If Isaac is older, he maybe able to go quicker. Also, our doctor said to give it 1/2 hour before a meal but for our son we find that we need to give it about an hour before a meal. I hope this helps. Guest guest
Mimi, Datreon has been taking Periactin since he was 9 months old and it has been wonderful! He didn't have any trouble starting it and didn't have to ease into the dosage. We kind of experimented at one point because a nutritionist didn't think that it worked. After taking him off of it for 2 weeks, he lost 8oz. But after going back on it, he gained it right back. So, I definitely think it is awesome. Also Datreon's head is pretty proportional to his body, I'm not sure on the percentage, but he is also big for an RSS child, and his weight for height has stayed between 15-25%. Good Luck on the periactin! le mom to Datreon, RSS, 17months, 16lb 2oz, 27in, Periactin,
