Sounds to me like she is getting the BPD/DS mixed up with the original Scorpinaro - or is that what she says she is giving you? How long have you had your surgery scheduled? I am asking this because I am wondering why you are posting now, just 2 days before your surgery?? Are you feeling like something is " not right " ? Otherwise, why are you posting here? Are you wanting our opinions or what? If you are feeling something is not right, cancell your surgery and go to another surgeon. If you like what your surgeon says, then do you want our opinions about it? I am not being nasty here, but I just don't understand your reason for posting, especially at this late date. Is it because you think your surgeon " knows all " because of the MD after her name? That I AM being sarcastic about! But you need to do what you need to do and you will be the one who has to decide if you want to live without the pyloric valve or with whatever consequences the surgery you are having Monday will give you. Please I am NOT being sarcastic here, but I just did not understand your post or your reasons for posting. Carole
Guest guest
Lee Ann, as a DS support list we tend to support the DS not the older outdated or less effective surgeries. I know you feel bad that you have not been cheered on here. But many of us did our research ourselves, not just trusted a surgeon to give us the information from their viewpoint. We read the pros and cons of the DS and the BPD, the RNY, VGB, etc You are not being bashed, the surgery you are having is being bashed. Dr is being bashed for her deceptiveness. You fought to get the DS and are being denied it. The reasons you are being given are not supported by medical literature. You wouldn't expect us not to say that, would you? If you choose to have this surgery, then you need to be aware of the risks and differences between it and the DS. And until you are on that table you have the option of changing your mind. If you go through with this and come back as a post op I am certain you will find us supportive and caring. I will do all I can to caution you about this choice you are making. But once you have made it, it is not reversible. And we will support you. in Seattle > This is the ONLY list I'm getting greif from... > My surgeon is . It sounds like you are forgetting the full name of this list: Duodenal Switch obesity surgery SUPPORT >> YOu mean the BPD? yes, Sharon and her mother (she was mentioned) and there are two other members I know about (but can't recall their names - hopefully at least one of them will respond to you) who had the BPD due to insufficient blood flow to the duodenum during surgery (this making the DS portion of the surgery undoable in the surgeon's opinion). I'm not sure if their stomachs have the 'sleeve gastrecomy' of the DS or the traditional BPD Scorpino style since their BPDs were emergency surgeries and may have been slightly different. There is a BPD support group (I think it is for long term post-ops, though). Sharon would be able to tell you the list's name, etc. I'm sure you'll be able to meet more BPD post-ops there. There may be more here as well but I think Sharon started the list (? If I remember correctly) because she felt she didn't get the same level of questions answered, etc. with a DS group alone. She is on all the lists and posts here as well but there is at least one BPD-specific list on yahoogroups. I am sorry that you do not feel supported. I was also confused about the reason for your post--- I thought perhaps you were a little disoriented finding out about this change of plans so close to your surgery date. You did mention that you trusted Dr. 's opinion but you also seemed to indicate (and it is quite possible that I and others are reading into things here) that you weren't totally prepared or totally settled about it. I think everyone here supports you TOTALLY. Our point is it should be YOUR decision and you should be given ADEQUATE TIME to make it and not feel pressured into it at all. BElieve me, we all know the tremendous stress that any preop is under right before surgery. :) I know that to suggest you 'wait' or 'reschedule' is pretty impractical given that you've traveled long distance for this surgery (from what I remember), you've waited a long time to get this approval (after two denials). I don't know if it would even be possible. But, I should think that delaying it by a week or two shouldn't mean the approval would 'expire' or that you could not have the surgery. If you are confident that things are settled for you after this weekend, then go into the surgery totally with a peace of mind and we're behind you ALL THE WAY! YOU GO, GIRL!!!!! :) And, we're hoping for updates. Do you have an angel?????? Someone to keep us updated on your progress? You are DEFINATELY in my thoughts and prayers! {{{{hugs}}}} all the best, Noverr-Chin co-moderator, duodenalswitch lap ds with gallbladder removal January 25, 2001 Dr. Gagner/Mt.
