Guest guest
Hi Gwen,I'm still pretty new here too, but a while back someone talked about how to make Epsom Salt lotion, for those of us that don't have a bathtub (I also just have a shower). Here is the link. http://www.enzymestuff.com/epsomsalts.htm#3 It's got a lot of info about Epsom Salt, but the instructions for the lotion are about half way down the page. Good luck, hope you feel better.~CD, SCD 02/21/2010 PJ, I only have a shower here, but I'm thinking about packing a bag and heading to my daughter's to take an epsom salt bath. Yesterday, I felt pretty good, but today, i woke up exhausted. Anyway, I'm drinking lots of water and taking it easy overall, even while at work. Is there anything else I can do to ease the symptoms? I've had tinitus for 4 years and yesterday, for the first time, my ears were not ringing. Today they are screaming at me again, almost as loud as my body is screaming at me for sugar and carbs. I just couldn't take the fatigue and fog today and get a day of work done. > > > > Crazy bizarre nightmares, too. Did anyone else have that in the first days? I realize this sounds dramatic, but I really, this is infinitely better than before SCD. I'm so hopeful and feel that this is right for me, and I can tolerate this for a while. Keeping in mind that everyone is different, how long do you think the exhaustion and particularly, the fog, will last? I have finals coming up soon and need to be able to think. > > > > Thanks! Guest guest
, thanks for the link! I'll get some salts and try it this evening. Gwen > > > > > > > > I'm day 8 SCD today. Guest guest
Hey Gwen, glad to hear you are feeling better. Sorry about the die off but it's a good sign! Just wanted to let you know I had terrible troubles with awful nightmares with my IBD. I mostly blamed this on my PTSD until I read about it being a problem with IBD and neurotoxins (lord have i had trouble with neurotoxins!) When i tried doing SCD nightmares got way way (WAY!!) better, but I couldn't follow the diet strictly for years and still had problems. When I finally got the last bloody illegal thing out of my diet, I had the first good dream I could remember. It was wonderful! Anyways, nightmares are totally typical with the bad bacteria generated neurotoxins. Sorry you're having them but you're sure on the right track out! :)Best wishes! :)p.s. if you continue to have neuro symptoms, you might want to ease fruit in slower, especially by juicing/cooking it first p.p.s.epsom salts cream sounds great, but i've find that a long soak in water helps draw stuff out too. I'd def do the cream, but would not discourage you from indulging in a bath as well once in awhile I had crazy dreams in the first few days of starting the diet. The dreams were mostly centered on sugar and starch cravings. For example, I have wild dreams/cravings about eating candies I don't even like (Now & Laters, Almond Joys, etc;), or eating starches I can't stand (like fixing bowls of rice -- I hate rice.) It was really strange...and all within the first couple of days of going cold turkey off of starches and sugars. Two days ago, I had a dream about eating veggie burgers (full of starches, etc; and which I really don't care for.) It's really weird. > > I'm day 8 SCD today. Guest guest
That just shows how different everyone is with the diet. The first thing that went away for me in the beginning was nightmares. Crazy, crazy lucid dreams. I hesitated to try LDN because that's a potential side effect. Same thing with that--it's all gone away. I don't have PTSD though. The epsom salts cause a lot of die-off. If you're already having a lot, I would wait on the epsom salts. (Not sure what the moderator advice is on this--I tried a couple of times and it's very strong to me). I did the foot rub they do for kids and that was more than enough. Debbie 41 cd
Guest guest
Hey :)I don't know if/how long to hold off on epsom salts, but I will definitely echo that they can be strong. I read a good thread on them, and someone had said that they can tolerate about 5 mins in the tub with them at that's it. I'm glad I read that, because I tried a very small amount of them in the tub and boy oh boy only about 5-7 mins and I had to get out! A few weeks later I tried a little again, and it was much better, and it helped ALOT. I ended up adding more and more to the bath and stayed in for a couple hours as I felt better and better Best! Guest guest
As others have already said, this does sound like die-off. Actually, this sounds like candida die-off to me (don't know if you have that or not)... I know I went through a period at one point when I'd be dreaming of pastries and salivating when I'd smell apples (and yeah, dreaming of rice as well!?). (And I had the concentration issues too). As for the exhaustion, are you getting in enough calories? I know, funny question, but this diet in it's early stages might take a conscious effort to get enough energy in (although it can be satiating with the all the broth and meat allowed), unless one is loading up on the yogurt, cheesecake, applesauce and eggs (all things which I personally couldn't tolerate well...). If you're body is able to handle fats ok, maybe you could add a bit more of them if you're caloric intake is on the low side (just watch out for coconut oil at this point, because of the probable die-off that you're experiencing, it'll probably just induce stronger die off symptoms, though when you are able to take it later on, it definitely gives [me at least] an energy boost). Another thing that gives me an energy boost is eating liver, maybe because it's chalk full nutrients. I eat grass-fed liver every week at this point (I find it's a much milder taste than the regular stuff). I can't say how long this will last for you, but what I've found in myself is that I seem to go through cycles of detox and it isn't just a one shot deal. Maybe it's just different aspects of healing taking place at different times or maybe it just comes along everytime I make a new change that induces detoxification. HTH, all the best with your finals! -Meli > > I'm day 8 SCD today. I can't believe how much better my body already feels. And this group is most helpful. Guest guest
Gwen and Lori, I'm exploring the use of molybendum to help break down the acetaldehyde which is a by-product of the yeast. I'm using Body Bio minerals (Kim M's recommended them) and it really seems to help. I double and triple up on my molybendum and selenium to help keep the correct detox pathways open. It's always so hard, and takes so much time, to really determine what is working, but it seems that it really helps. I can't take my minerals in the morning because I take thyroid, so I've been taking them when I get home from work. I'm usually tired from work, but also have that hangover type feeling, too, particularly since I had a huge yeast flare in reponse to gamma globulin shots. I take my minerals and seem to actually feel somewhat better within half an hour. It will get better. Ellen > > I'm day 8 SCD today. I can't believe how much better my body already feels.
