Guest guest
, My! Wyatt is quite a handsome boy! He looks like he has a great personality too! My boy, , is quite handsome too. However, he has chronic ear inflammation and he's outside right now running around moaning and barking about it. He won't come inside and rarely lets me clean his ears. I think it's time for the vet to give him another shot of depo-medrol. Poor boy! Take Care, Dianne A.

Guest guest
Well, here is the story. Wyatt is almost 8 months old. He has Plagio. We had a consult for a STAR helmet. When measured, he was 10-11mm off on his right side, classifying him as moderate to severe (with 12 being severe). THey said a helmet/band is not required, but it is up to us as parents. They said if we did this, he would be in a helmet for 3-6 months with good prgnosis. We waited this long because his DR. didn't see this as a problem. He has been arond for a while so we valued his opinion. We asked for a referral to a specailist, and he did. Wyatt's Dr. has never had a child under his care wear a band / helmet. Now here is the hard part I am sure most face, do we proceed? His Dr. doesn't think it is necessary, but will support our decision. His grandparends share the same opinion. Even the specialist that meaured him said that if his child measured like Wyatt, he probably wouldn't start a helmet, citing personal reasons. Frustrating!! When looking at Wyatt's head from the top, his ears are not perfectly in line across. His left is pushed back further than is right. (flatness is on the right side). WILL this correct naturally in time if we do nothing, but REPO? Will this correct with a band/helmet? We went and setup a casting for a band at the end of this week. I set up an album labeled WYATT. Check it out if desire. ANY THOUGHTS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. JJ
Guest guest
Hi JJ, Welcome to the group. I would band Wyatt. Our specialist (cranio facial plastic surgeon) recommends banding at 10mm or above. Some band at around 8mm. If it is bothering you now at 10-11, you will likely always question your decision if you don't band him. It may or may not correct enough on its own to satisfy you - there is no way to know. If you start now, you'll see good results assuming your ortho is experienced. My daughter wore a starband for brachy (flat in back with extra width) and did very well. I have never questioned my decision to put her in a band. I know I wouldn't be happy with her headshape if I hadn't done it. She graduated from her band at 10 mo. Four mo later we went for a follow up, and although her head had grown, it had not improved - the growth was evenly distributed, not targetted to her problem area. I guess given that experience I don't believe in " rounding out on its own " . -christine sydney, almost 3 yrs, starband grad > > Well, here is the story. > > Wyatt is almost 8 months old. Guest guest
I didn't look at your pics, but wanted to tell you to do it! If you are concerned about it, you'll regret it if you don't. We waited and finally went for it at 15 months and now don't even know if it'll work for sure. I regret not doing it sooner. I wish you luck! ~Kristi > > > > Well, here is the story. > > > > Wyatt is almost 8 months old. He has Plagio. > > We had a consult for a STAR helmet. Guest guest
Hi JJ Please go ahead with the decision to band. I was in a similar situation where my PED and Neuro surgeon both thought my baby's Brachy was okay. he had 97 % cephalic ratio and both of them thought he would be fine in a year . I was not convinced and pushed them for a band. Both were not co-operative . FYI, the neuro surgoen I am talking about is a world class Dr from CHOC. He thought I was just making a small thing into a big issue. Anyway, I switched my PED and got a prescription for band from another PED . My only regret is I should not have wasted all that time trying to re-position his head . I should have started him on band in 5th month itself. When we finally got a band, he was 7 months 1 week old. had we started him on band in 5th month itself, he would have already graduated with better results by now and we would have known about his tort in 5th month itself. Both these pediatricians and the neuro surgoen never noticed his " very " noticeable tort. i had no clue why the baby was titling his head to one side. I thought it was a baby slouch. Anyway, time is very precious and your baby is the most precious for you. You will never regret with your decision to band.
