Guest guest
The only thing I can think of is that four months on SCD may be too soon for cabbage family veggies. Fermented veggies are not for beginners.... and at four months, you're not quite a brand NEW beginner, but .... As an example, I would still consider my daughter to be barely past the beginning stages at this point (SCD 5 months this time around..... 18 months on SCD back in 2003-04) so I don't yet give her any raw fruit or veggies yet, and am very cautious on the amounts of any cabbage family foods. I can only advise for you to cut the amount back to what you were eating before and see how you do. You also did add some new supps.... but it seems you were having the bloating before that? Impossible to know if those are affecting you, unless you take them back out and see if you get better.... then add them back, one at a time. Just for the record, I have to say I am always uneasy when someone says they have cut out ALL fruit. SCD was not meant to be completely devoid of this food group. If you have horrid yeast problems, have you tried the Candex enzymes yet? What about other natural antifungals? Eating plenty of fresh garlic? Patti bloating Hi, I need some help figuring out my bloating problem. Here is my background: I have been on SCD for 4 months, I originally started it for yeast problems in myself and my infant son (now 10 months old), who also suffers from eczema. We had huge die-off at the beginning and we had our ups and downs. DS'd eczema ranges from mild-moderate on his cheeks, but it never seems to go away. I have cut out fruit, dairy, and coconut oil, we had big improvements without each of these. In the past few weeks I have been very bloated, I had increased the amount of fermented cabbage that I was eating (my only probiotic source.)I also added some new suppliments (all SCD legal) magnesium and b complex. I also take vit c (sodium ascorbate), digest gold, black currant seed oil, and quercetin. So I decided to go back and do the intro diet again for a couple of days. I had a slight headache yesterday but no huge die-off like the first time. But I am still really bloated. Is this die-off? What else could it be? The other questions I have all relate to my sons food sensitivities, reactions are mainly eczema on his cheeks. I cannot figure them out! I am still breastfeeding and he eats some solids (all SCD legal) and he tolerates them well. I am careful about adding new suppliments and foods to my diet, but there really is no pattern that I can see. I still have yet to figure out my mineral suppliments, I think I am out of balance... Sorry this post is so long, just trying to explain the situation as best as I can. I have done my best to figure out these on my own, but I need help! Thanks, Beth SCD since 6/

Guest guest
Thanks for the reply Patti, I had been tolerating the fermented cabbage well for about 6 weeks prior to the bloating. I realize it is a harder to digest food but since we are dairy free this was my only choice for probiotics. The pills that say 'dairy free' all have trace amounts of dairy and the only one that isn't started on dairy is grown on chick peas. Ah, I haver been using raw garlic, about 3 cloves a day. I have a bottle of Candex. I have not tried any other anti fungals .I just looked at the b complex and it says " biotin, folic acid and b-12 are derived from bacterial sources. " There is no yeast in the vit. Maybe this is it? WE tried fruit: applesauce, pearsauce, avocado and those all gave DS flair ups in eczema. Then about a month ago, after doing pretty well for a while,we tried banana and he had a bad flair up of eczema and had diarreah for 3 days and I got a migraine. So fruit has not worked out well for us. On this restart I am making grape juice jello though and it seems ok so far. We also take high vitamin CLO. Guest guest
Beth, You said: <<since we are dairy free this was my only choice for probiotics. The pills that say 'dairy free' all have trace amounts of dairy>> What about making nut milk yogurt with the dairy-free GIProgurt starter? <<I have a bottle of Candex. I have not tried any other anti fungals.>> So, you have some of the Candex.... but have not tried it yet? Others to consider would be GSE (grapefruit seed extract), oil of oregano, and olive leaf extract (*yeah, I know someone here posted the other day that olive leaf is only for viruses.... but, the info I have read says it has anti-viral, anti-bacterial, AND anti-fungal properties). <<I just looked at the b complex and it says " biotin, folic acid and b-12 are derived from bacterial sources. " There is no yeast in the vit. Maybe this is it?>> Well, you just never know. Even if something contains no illegals, you never know how an individual might respond to it. Only one way to tell.... take it out again and see how you do. If no change, add it back. ANYTHING can cause a " reaction " .... but sometimes it's not really that you " can't tolerate " whatever it is.... but just that particular supp (or food or whatever) just upset the balance ever-so-slightly and your system over-reacted. Best to resist the temptation to add every good thing under the sun (such as supplements.... even if you KNOW you need them) until you've achieved considerable gut healing and are more stable. I'm bummed for you about the fruit..... well, so far so good on the grape juice. That's a plus. I'll give it some more thought and see if I can think of anything. best.... To try and reduce bloating you could drink the juice from the fermented cabbage and avoid the actual cabbage for now. You should get good probiotics in the tangy juice while avoiding the fiber in the cabbage. Guest guest
Didn't catch your name,Peas are legal. Peas are also higher in natural sugars (so are carrots), so it could be your bacteria reacting to the carbs in them and you are just sensitive to it. The bloating/nausea/indigestion can also be part of the normal healing process, especially very early on because the gut flora is changing so much. It should settle, and if it doesn't, then I would probably surmise that it was the peas and avoid them for a period of time if it were me.Almonds are very high in calcium, protein, and fat. It could be your body wanting/needing any of those things. Bacteria do not usually crave fat, at least not that I have ever read about, but good saturated fat is very important for every cell in your body and it is possible it is sending you cravings because it is healing and wants more! ; )AmeliaTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Sat, May 8, 2010 1:42:41 AMSubject: Bloating If you are following the scd, and you get a "reaction"(bloating /nausea'indigest ion)....is this normal? part of the healing process?...or is the scd not working? also, are peas legal? A question for the experienced scd people...... ...why would i crave almonds, or just fats in general? Does the bacteria want the fat? > > , > > I believe that it could be either blood from laceration (if BMs are too large or there are hemorrhoids) or from ulcers in the colon. If it is bright red, it is coming from lower in the colon near the rectum, but if darker red or brown, it is from higher up the colon. > > Amelia > > > > > > ____________ _________ _________ __ > From: Regan <dozerregan@ ...> > To: BTVC-SCD@yahoogroup s.com > Sent: Fri, May 7, 2010 5:23:19 PM > Subject: Why does B occur? > > > My BM's have finally been taking better shape, but I still sometimes strain and notice B, this past week.
