Guest guest
Trina, I understand what you mean about berserk. We tried to take my son off his SSRI two summers ago. It took about 2 weeks for him to become so anxiety-ridden that all he could do was crouch in the corner of the livng room sofa and smell his hands. Scary for him and for us. We have used both Celexa and Effexor. Brain chemistry differs from one individual to another and not everyone is affected the same way by the same medication, but here is our experience. Celexa was wonderful for my son's anxiety, but we found it overrode his self-censoring mechanism -- whoopee, no inhibitions! Before long he was doing some pretty dangerous things because he had no impulse control on Celexa. Later on we tried Effexor, for a very short time. It affected his appetite to the point that he would eat literally nothing! He became very, very skinny. Also, it made him grouchy and I am not convinced it was entirely GFCF. We didn't stay with that one very long. He has now been on Prozac for over a year, and it seems to do what he needs. He functions well on it, and we don't see the OCD behaviors. It is expensive though. In each case, our doctor, a child psychiatrist, has told us that the medications are similar enough that it was not necessary to stop one for a time before switching to another. We did start with the smallest dose, in each case, and work our way up to what seemed most effective. Good luck with your son. I hope this information is helpful. in FL > I am switching my son from Celexa, which he has been on for four years, to > Effexor. Guest guest
celexa slows down the nerve impulses. It also helps to increase blood flow to the brain. AND by working on the serontonin it effects the melantonin ... see http://nids.net or http://www.neuroimmunedr.com Have you tried Paxil ? how about alternating doses of celexa ? my son is on alternating 1/4 and 1/2 tablets 1x day (in the morning) doris sville JnSm5@... wrote: > In a message dated 10/25/01 10:34:42 AM Pacific Daylight Time, mont@... > writes: > > > Hi again, > > > > I am switching my son from Celexa, which he has been on for four years, to > > Effexor.
