Kathy,

It is actually on Dr 's orders that I am losing the weight. He wanted 20

pounds gone in the last three weeks before surgery. I didnt think I could lose

20 pounds in 3 weeks--maybe, but not sure, so I am starting now, about 8 weeks

out.

I would be cautious of dieting before major surgery. As we all have

experienced, dieting can make you weak and feel awful. You will need all your

health and strength for the surgery recovery. Talk to your doctor or the office

about any pre-surgery diets. They may already have a diet for you to try or

they may warn against it. I know my surgeon has some people diet prior to

surgery if they have a very high BMI.

I was specifically told NOT to diet before surgery due to the fact that I

had a low albumin level. It is important to talk with your surgeon before

embarking upon a weight loss effort before your surgery.
