If your child tolerates egg white and hydrogenated soy oil, you have many

frosting options. The egg white based frostings-- " seafoam " , " divinity " ,

etc are some of the names-- are one way to go. Check older, classic

cookbooks like Joy of Cooking. If newer concerns about uncooked egg whites

bother you, you can buy dehydrated egg whites at health food stores under

the Just Whites name. Another option is any confectioner's sugar and

crisco or margarine frosting; these are usually called " buttercream "

frostings.

Without eggs or soy, things get a lot tougher. Coconut butter is hard at

cool room temperature, so can be made into a frosting. Same with a Spectrum

shortening made with palm; I haven't seen it, but it is written about on

this list quite often. I'd vote for adding the best quality flavoring you

can find, since white frostings don't have a lot in there to flavor them

besides the fat and sweetener.
