When I went in Sept. for my appointment She told me about the BPD/DS and then told me about the BPD which she said has been being done in Italy for over 20 years without any problems and she said that she was considering only doing the BPD in the near future. She answers her email usually within a day or two. >> I'm not totally sure why Dr. Ren is not doing the DS, but I DO know she encountered difficulties performing the DS on one patient... She ended up giving a BPD to this person (Deb) because of supposed lack of blood supply to the duodenum while trying to hook up the DS. I really have no idea as to whether this difficulty (which was experienced on only one patient that I know of, the others who had the DS with her had it performed successfully, I believe) has anything to do with her having grievances about the procedure.. I think it's very, very odd that she would prefer the BPD (especially when the DS was meant to modify or lessen various side-effects of the BPD AND there is an increased risk of pancreatic cancer with removal of the lower stomach).... Or, only perform the BPD and not the DS... I would really, really like to know her medical reasons for this.. all the best, lap ds with gallbladder removal January 25, 2001 Dr. Gagner/mt. Guest guest
, I have my three-month follow-up on Oct. 15. If you can wait that long, I'll try and get some info for you. She did a super job on me (DS/ gallbladder & appendix removed) and I can't imagine how her thinking could have changed so radically since July. If you can't wait 'til the 15th, why not e-mail her directly and get the truth from the horse's mouth. In the past, she has been VERY accessible by e-mail. Marcia BPD/DS, July 13. 2001 281/BMI 54 at March consult 267/July 13 217/BMI 41,Oct. 6 and feeling great! Re: BPD Only? / Dr. Ren and Choosing Surgeons YIKES!!!!! I have an appointment with Dr. Ren on Halloween...please tell me this is just a rumor. Is Dr. Ren really not doing this surgery any more? If this is true, I don't know why I am surprised...I have had the worst 6 weeks of my life...so this would definately be the icing on my cake. If anyone knows if this is true or not, please let me know. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
