Guest guest
After a recent first visit with our Endo we were told GHT wouldn't be started until 4 year old, I was under the impressions that it would be 2 years old, can anyone shed any light on this, is it different in the UK to the US? Guest guest
Dawna We started ght late (Adam was 8) so I was not concerned with the weight to height ratio. If you end up in Toronto, you'll more than likely see our Endo. I am going down on Tuesday (a week today) for Adam's next check up. I'll ask him some of your questions but he is a good doctor. One thing you should know, the Canadian standards for GHT levels is alot lower than the US standards (for instance, and I am just making these numbers up....if we give 3 units in Canada for a 30 lbs child; the US would do 5 units). But just to show you how awesome my endo is---Adam is not growing as quickly as he would like, so we are giving 4.5 units. He is above what is " legally " allowed in Canada but slightly below the US standards. My gut would tell me for you to start and go for it. But then again, that's just me! Let me know what else you learn and I'll talk to my endo for you. Deb GHT Well our endo called today to let us know that he had been doing some research with regards to gh and RSS, he has tried to contact Dr.H and has not had any luck and he doesn't see any reason to wait to start Noah on GHT. We had told him when he had called with the testing results that we wanted to wait until Noah gained some weight so that he was 15% weight to height. Does anyone know if it is just in the letter from Dr. H about the weight or is there an article that specifically addresses the weight issue that I can fax or send him a copy to help explain it. Our Ped wants us to go to Toronto where the endos have dealt with RSS and get their opinions, but warned us that they probably wouldn't look at the test results from London and would want to do their own testing. Does the GH improve appetites too? H ... I think that you and I are in about the same place as far as our boys are concerned (except we haven't had any hospital stays yet, touch wood) ... plateau for a long time with the weight etc. Our ped mentioned to us about the possibility of a g tube if the periactin doesn't help (and for some reason he didn't hold much faith in the periactin or so it seemed to me). Like Jodi said though (I think I've been saying that a bit) you are doing a great job and sometimes we have to give it a little time. We are doing pretty good with the Periactin so far. Only 4 days in and here's hoping. Dawna Matt 13, 11, Kaitlyn 8, Noah 3 RSS, Periactin, 19 lbs 8.7 ounces You know I just can't wrap my lips around the Canadian name for Periatin ... Guest guest
Dawna - yes it would seem we are in similar situations. Thanks for your comments. I haven't been " on top " of my letter info as I should - I need to get MAGIC to send me more docs myself. I'm sure someone will be able to help you with that question. But, I do know that GH does help with appetite as well. We were told about a year ago that we were to do a tube or GH to help with Ian's appetite as well - and chose neither at the time. Thus, our reason for being at this point in time. I very much look forward to your posts and appreciate chatting with you. Please keep us posted. I'm eager to hear what you find out for Noah. - H Mom to 4 non/rss 41 lbs 42 1/2 " and Ian 2 1/2 RSS 21 lbs 32 " > > Well our endo called today to let us know that he had been doing some > research with regards to gh and RSS, he has tried to contact Dr.H and > has not had any luck and he doesn't see any reason to wait to start > Noah on GHT. Guest guest
Deb, Your endo has dealt with some RSS kids right I mean as opposed to one ... would you ask him if he would be willing to consult with the our London one ... I am not totally opposed to going to TO but would rather stick it out with London. Maybe our ped would be happy if our endo would even consult with someone. Thanks so much. Guest guest
Hi Dawna I better start a list of questions LOL......I asked my endo one time " how many RSS kids do you treat? " (since I know of NONE; haven't found one yet on this list or via Magic; mind you our ped. --who is also an endo--treats one other GHD patient that is a member of Magic)....anyway, when I asked him his response was " about a half a dozen " . So it's more than Adam at least. He is the head of endocrinology at Sick Kids as well, so I think that says something. I will ask him on Tuesday if he is willing to consult with the London endo. or prefers to be the one " in charge " (don't worry I will phrase it nicely with no names!! LOL) I'll let you know when I find out more. Guest guest
Thanks so much Deb! If you want any more details or anything about Noah just let me know and I'll email you. I really appreciate this. I do trust you will do it nicely lol. Dawna > > > > Dawna > > We started ght late (Adam was 8) so I was not concerned with the > weight to height ratio.
