Guest guest
, Rich and Sher, The guidelines that have been set for the vaccine have nothing to do with Obama's health care plan or our country letting us down. The guidelines were set to age merely 65 because it is believed that we who are older than 65 are immune to the virus so they are distributing the vaccine to those most at risk. It is difficult to have guidelines but its better than "first come first serve" where the lines would be so long We'd have to camp out to get the vaccine. I agree that they have somehow "dropped the ball" by not having enough to give us all a shot, but it is what it is. So, it must be distributed in the most efficent way. It's Its much easier to go along with guidelines when it includes us as a priority, and much more difficult to accept when we are not a priority. I'm just trying to put your mind at ease, there are no death boards an I don't think there ever will be any in this country. Do not underestimate We Americans, we would not put up with it!!! Guest guest
Thank you Bob (and Bruce too) for responding to concerns about the H1N1 vaccine and politics. Unfortunately the reality is we still have limited (though improving) supply of the vaccine. They have to distribute it the best way possible to those most likely to have severe complications or death from flu infection. That appears to be the very young and pregnant women. Those of us with lung disease or other chronic illnesses will be next on the priority list. In the meantime, wash your hands, eat well and get enough rest. Guest guest
Pink She's probably out cruising the river or something, but, yes, they are recommending she and others who have had it still get the vaccine. The feeling is that it will not hurt and may help, especially as the H1N1 season may run very long. One other thing I haven't seen discussed publicly recently and would hope parents are being told when their child gets the flu shot. The CDC appears to still be recommending two shots for those under ten years old, separated by at least 21 days. > > > From: Beth mbmurtha (AT) yahoo (DOT) com> > Subject: Checking in from Chattanooga TN > To: Breathe-Support@ yahoogroups. com > Date: Thursday, October 29, 2009, 8:45 PM > > > > > > > > Hi all! > After a longish day in the car I'm happy to report the safe arrival in Chattanooga of myself, Peggy and , Teri Marietta and Jane. Guest guest
Joyce, I did have confirmed H1N1 back in May. The CDC is currently recommending that anyone who has already had H1N1 should still get the vaccine. There are variations of the virus that are covered by the vaccine that I may or may not have immunity to from my infection. Just to clarify about Tamiflu. It is intended to treat or prevent an infection. Having had a course of Tamiflu does not provide protection from a future infection. If you've had Tamiflu before, you would receive it again for a new infection. The same way you would take an antibiotic each time you had a bacterial infection. Guest guest
Beth: Thank you for letting me express my frustrations. This group has been a big help and made me more determined to try to extend my life. I am certain there is a better way to deal with IPF. Unfortunately, no one has written a how-to book. Burns To: Breathe-Support Sent: Fri, October 30, 2009 10:27:16 PMSubject: Re: Checking in from Chattanooga TN I understand your frustration but this has nothing to do with Palin or Obama or any other politician or political issue. It's very simply a matter of them prioritizing those at greatest risk. It starts with kids and pregnant women. The vast majority of those to die have been very young. We've had quite a few in our area. Then we'll all get it. The age again isn't a matter of someone condemning you for being old, but it is a matter of greater likelihood of you having built immunity to H1N1 by either having it or being exposed to it during a previous outbreak. It's also a matter of what they've found out so far about risk. No one would argue that everyone needs the vaccine. However, there isn't enough out there yet for everyone even if some pharmacies might have some that no one has gone to get. The distribution system is struggling in other ways. For instance, Dallas and Fort Worth have both started some vaccines but I live in another county and none has started in my county yet. There are also instances of those administering it not knowing the rules well and turning away those deserving it as well. Yes, it's lousy that everyone can't have it or didn't get the vaccination two months ago. Here is the CDC information:The new 2009 H1N1 virus does not seem to be affecting people 65 years and older in the same way that seasonal flu usually does. Most people who have gotten sick from this new virus have been younger. In fact, people 65 and older are the group that is least likely to get infected with this new virus. There have been relatively few infections and even fewer cases of serious illness and death with this new virus in people older than 65. Laboratory tests on blood samples indicate that older people likely have some pre-existing immunity to the 2009 H1N1 flu virus. But while people 65 and older are the least likely to be infected with 2009 H1N1 flu, those that do become infected are at greater risk of having serious complications from their illness.> > > >From: Beth mbmurtha (AT) yahoo (DOT) com>> >Subject: Checking in from Chattanooga TN> >To: Breathe-Support@ yahoogroups. com> >Date: Thursday, October 29, 2009, 8:45 PM> >> >> > > >Hi all! > >After a longish day in the car I'm happy to report the safe arrival in Chattanooga of myself, Peggy and , Teri Marietta and Jane.
